I hadn’t been here before, but wanted to give it a try with my Partner.
First impression it seemed great and friendly!
We ordered the Chicken katsu bowl ($18.50) and Chicken Udon Soup ($16). I was confused when I went to pay I ended up paying $40.20. The price included $0.52 for surcharge on the Eftpos machine.
I then raised this with the lady that checked us out, and she had to call the manager, they then came up with “it’s a weekend and public holiday surcharge”… they didn’t have this advertised anywhere, they only had the “Public Holiday surcharge” handwritten on a small sign where you pay. So I payed more than I should have.
The food was served cold, the Curry was cold, lacked a little flavour, rice was just rice, and the katsu Chicken was good on its own, but still lacked flavour. 6/10
The Udon soup was okay, there was no complexities to the flavour profile, just tasted like a packet. Also to note, there was only the tiniest amount of Chicken, and thinly sliced carrots… that was it! 5/10
I don’t think I’ll be back, only due to the misleading money taking, lack of flavour and the service being poor. I couldn’t bring it to their attention, because I just wanted to get out, and we weren’t attended too. The table next to us, sat dirty the entire time we...
Read morewould give a 6 star if I could! Awesome service and food and alot of decoration inside the small restaurant. Rather small seating space but they managed to squeeze in quite a few tables and allow for customers to still move around freely with enough space.
We ordered a beef rice bowl, chicken rice bowl, teriyaki chicken curry rice and a chicken katsu curry rice. And sides of soy garlic chicken and edamame which totalled to around 90 bucks for all the food.
The chickens were quite tender and juicy, chicken katsu extremely crispy and rich in flavour. The beef was soft and well cooked, with a good taste.
The edamame was very flavourful with a slight burnt taste to it, which added to the flavour. The soy garlic chicken was a little dry and the soy garlic sauce was only at the bottom of the plate but it still tasted very nice overall.
The staff also gave us a few mochis after realising that we were there for quite a long time talking about things. There was a peach and melon mochi which was so soft and sweet! They had a nice filling and a stretchy texture.
Overall the experience here was a 10/10 and it was literally one of the most affordable restaurant I have been to here in my trip. Highly recommend if you are near the Botanic...
Read moreA quaint little casual restaurant; I was excited to try given the overwhelming positive reviews, but was left feeling a bit disappointed
✔️ Potato Croquette - nice tasty standard potato croquette, but was ruined by the tonkatsu sauce? It was quite sour and strong, which is not the usual flavour profile I'm used to ✖️ Takoyaki - this was drowned in sauce which is not necessarily a bad thing, however it was super undercooked, the batter being on the sticky/rawer side ➖ Soy-garlic Fried Chicken - the flavour was nice but it was not crispy nor crunchy, a sad mouthfeel. Looks good in the picture though 🤷🏼♀️ ➖ Pork Katsu Curry - The pork katsu was tender but once again, ruined by that sour(?) tonkatsu sauce? The curry however, was the most questionable, as it was quite thin in consistency and lacking in flavour which was quite a letdown ✖️ Iced Matcha w almond milk - very generous on the cream but the matcha itself was not very good and was certainly not worth $8
It's easily deduced that this isn't exactly authentic Japanese food, given that they are Korean, hence the more K-style fried chicken and questionable curry. However, it's not bad if you keep your expectations in check but I won't be...
