Hanoi Rose — Restaurant in Melbourne

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES I don’t normally write reviews however this is necessary. I strongly advise anyone with allergies to stay away from this restaurant. My family and I have many allergies and we had heard good reviews about this restaurant for looking after allergies. However this was clearly not the case. The restaurant is careless and negligent when preparing their dishes. I drove about 50 minutes round trip and wrote on the order no seafood and no gluten in the dishes as I am seriously allergic to seafood. Once I got to the restaurant I got them to double check that there was no gluten or seafood in any of the dishes. They assured me it was all well looked after. I ordered a few dishes including a Chicken fried rice. When I got home after my long drive and was about to take a bite from the fried rice I luckily realised that it wasn’t chicken in my fried rice. Their was prawns in my “chicken” fried rice. Not only one prawn but it was filled with prawns. If I took even one bite of that it could have potentially been deadly. Obviously I was very worried and hesitant to eat the other dishes cause some of the recipes included fish sauce. Although we said no seafood and no fish sauce on the order I was not willing to risk my life because of this reckless restaurant. I called the restaurant and explained my situation hoping for a reasonable resolution. They offered me a $20 voucher which was insulting. 50 minute round trip that could potentially have been fatal. We didn’t eat about half the food because of their carelessness and that was the solution they offered. IF YOUR A VIETNAMESE FOOD LOVER, THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST VIETNAMESE RESTAURANT IN MELBOURNE !!!!!!! I have been to so many Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne I can’t keep up, from Melton, Melbourne CBD, Cragieburn, Preston and they do not compare. I rated on freshness of food, service, ambiance & cleanliness, price, going above and beyond. My friend and I ordered Hanoi Rose spring rolls, Salt & Pepper Squid, Sliced Beef Pho, Charcoal grilled chicken & apple rice paper rolls, Cornfed duck breast w/plum sauce, Pork Belly & sliced lemon, chilli, lemon grass .. The food is made true to its vietnamese comfort style and definetly made with love. The service was outstanding.. my friend is in crutches so we asked to move closer to window with 2 tables so we could fit all our food my crippled friends crutches and asked to close the window cause it was cold lol the staff did not blink twice and moved quick to move us. The artwork in this place and it’s set up is to die for and very clean !!!! We spent around $100 for 2 people forgot to mention we had 4 coke zeros lol probably the best $100 I’ve spent in a while. To top it off I asked the staff member about the rock yellow sugar at the front near the counter being used as decoration and where to find it to make Pho? The staff member did not know but said she will find out. To my surprise the manager came and said he does not know but I can buy it for $3? Talk about above and beyond alright. Hanoi Rose catered for a 12 person dinner for us and everything was wonderful. We asked for everything to be vegan and mentioned a few items we liked from the menu, and Thu came back to us with a suggested menu based on our budget.

Quantities were spot on and everything was delicious. They waited until we arrived to collect the order to put the spring rolls on to ensure they were fresh, and everything was labelled so it was easy to know which sauce went with what once we got home. It was presented nicely too, so we didn't bother transferring most of it to serving platters in the end.

Everyone loved the food and went back for seconds. We'd definitely get catering from here again. Thanks again Thu!

Update: Highly recommend Hanoi Rose restaurant for a function too! We just organised a milestone birthday here with 18 people for lunch. We had a long table in the back area near the mural, which was a really nice and comfortable setting. Although we didn't book the entire back space privately, the other tables left after not too long so we were able to move around and chat standing up which was great. The staff were very attentive and kind, and the owner Thu was once again fantastic helping us plan a great menu in the lead up.
