Delicious pasta cooked aldente. They have gluten free pizza and pasta for an extra $2. The photo here is of the seafood marinara with fresh king prawns and fresh scallops with the roe on. You can choose to have an olive oil based marinara (aoli), or a tomato based marinara. The dish also includes mussels. I wasvery impressed with the freshness and quality of the seafood. It was not frozen, nor did they use the cheap manufactured surimi (seafood extender). This is a traditional marinara made with no short cuts. For $26 +$3 napoli sauce, the marinara represents genuine value. My friend had the spaghetti and meatballs special for $18, which was equally fabulous and extremely delicious. I eat out often and Leo's has definitely maintained consistency and freshness throughout the years. Same simple and tasty recipes. Thank you for an enjoyable meal. I will be back next week!!
Sunday 17/02/19 Went back again tonight. Had a delicious spaghetti and meatballs for $14 (gluten free $2 extra). Tried the steak with mushroom sauce and chips ($20), not bad and good value but I think their specialty is definitely in their pasta snd pizza! I also had a cheesecake with vanilla icecream. Delicious!! See photos.
Sunday 03/03/2019 A delicious dinner again. Had the spag bol but Gluten free. They sadly don't do gluten free spaghetti, only gluten free penne. I requested the owner include gluten free spaghetti as it makes a huge difference in taste. Topped with parmesan this spag bol was wholesome, hearty and hit the spot. This was followed by honeycomb dessert & hot chocolate. I thought the dessert would be very sweet but it was not so sweet...
Read moreI haven't been to Leo's for years in fact probably close to 40 years! But at an event nearby where I knew I would need a lot of carbs afterwards so went here for lunch and had my carbs! 4 of us shared garlic cheese pizza and crumbed goat cheese balls to start, now I'm actually not super keen on goats cheese but thought would try, well it didn't change my mind while the crust on the garlic cheese pizza was too thick for my taste. Then I had rigatoni napoli which was great and such a generous serving that I brought half of it home, others had ravioli bolgnese, linguine pesto and cotaletto (veal schnitzel and spaghetti bolgnese) and couldn't finish theirs either. I also brought home a spaghetti bolgnese for husband who unfortunately had to work and note such a massive serving took up 2 big bowls! We also shared chips and margarita pizza, which had a really nice thin crust. Then desert, well I can't go past gelato, so had 3 scoops (chocolate, pistachio and salted caramel), my goodness so delicious. (Just as well had just done 10k walk for charity!). Drinks had Proseccos, decaf soy lattes, milkshake, apple juice and complimentary Ports! Leo's Spaghetti Bar is a Melbourne institution and I can see why it has lasted for over 60 years it offers good quality Italian food in generous serving sizes in a restaurant unchanged since I remember coming here as a kid, a welcome respite from all the pretentiousness around it. ...
Read moreThe experience that I encountered at Leo's was definitely not a pleasant one. (Their offer for "two for one pizza" was pretty misleading). They did not put on their sign that it excludes the gluten free base and really that is not very fair. If they are going to offer "two for one pizza" than they should also include "gluten free" as well. There was no flexibility and the lady that was there was not very friendly. All I am just saying is just to please have some flexibility, (I am sure that you do not sell much of the gluten free base pizzas and so it really would not have been too much of a big deal to include that in the "two for one". Not willing to be negotiable and flexible is not very fair really, if you have other customers who are allergic to gluten and they end up coming to your establishment and they do not get two for one pizza that actually means that promotion is only goes to certain types of people not good. It did not even state in the promotion excluding the gluten free base. Oh well not very impressed at all. I thought that the customer was "always right" by in this instance that does not seem to be the case. There would be other customers in the similar position who would feel like that they would be treated like a second class citizen. )-: because they are allergic to...
