We went on a Thursday night and I ordered the razor clam char kway teow. Shockingly, after the first bite I realized there were no clams at all in the dish.
When I raised this with the staff, I expected a quick fix. Instead, the same plate was returned to me — still without clams — with the excuse that they would serve the razor clams on the side. A few minutes later, a sad plate of pale, parboiled clams arrived, completely separate and clearly never touched the wok. No seasoning, no stir-fry, just boiled seafood slapped onto the table.
This is not only lazy execution but misrepresentation of the dish. Char kway teow is defined by wok hei and integrated flavors — what I was served was a shortcut, bordering on deception.
The taste of the noodles themselves was passable, but the entire experience was soured by the appalling service and lack of accountability. For a place that charges restaurant prices for hawker food, cutting corners like this is unacceptable.
If they can’t even get a signature dish right, it makes you question the standards of the entire kitchen. Definitely not worth the hype or the...
Read moreHeard so many good reviews about Lulu. Finally went with my friend to the new Chadsone branch. Waited 15mins for a table. While we were waiting in the queue, we noticed that quite a few tables (more than 5 that we had counted) ordered their signature dish, CKT. But most of them didn't finish the food, at least half of the food was left. We thought that's very strange and we started to wonder whether the CRT didn't taste good.
We were there to try the CRT, so we ordered a simple one and also ordered a Hainanese Chicken Rice to try. The CRT had 3 big prawns and they were nice and it also had Chinese dry sausage slices on top. The CRT tasted ok and just average and nothing special. I had eaten better than that elsewhere. The Hainanese Chicken Rice was also ok. The chicken was nice and tender. I noticed that the cutlery wasn't very cleaned. I've to wipe them clean beforehand.
Overall, I think it's worth trying it but not a place I will go back again as the food is just average. There are better Malaysian Restuarants elsewhere. Photo shown a portion of the CRT as we ate some before I remembered to...
Read moreFood was fantastic and authentic enough. Very flavourful and if you want it a bit more spicy, they do bring the heat (not just westernised spice levels).
Service was nonexistent though, they’d bring the food to you without any cutlery. Not even letting me know that there’s a drawer underneath the table. (For context, I was seated on the couch-seats, and the drawers beneath the table, was facing the opposite direction to me, so I wouldn’t be aware there was a drawer beneath the table from my point of view) The multitude of waiters would just walk by without even asking if I needed cutlery whilst I was there looking around with my food right in front of me. No attempt to offer me assistance in locating some cutlery to eat with… or am I supposed to dig in with my bare hands?
I suppose this is just the authentic Malaysian experience of zero customer service. So just minus one star. Come here for the great food, but not the service. Ordered: CharKuey Teow with Duck Eggs & Nasi Lemak Chicken Curry with Meal Set(that the staff doesn’t even share, you just order via QR Code and figure it...
