I was there on Sunday 19/1/20 hoping to have a lovely early CNY dinner. I was so wrong with picking the location. In a sentence "Terrible food... terrible service!" One star for the restaurant having a good frontage facing the Yarra River with 2 stone warriors and it ends there. If this restaurant didn’t prosper at its time at the Docklands, I don’t see it lasting at South Wharf too. Thankfully they did have a front of house on floor that spoke English but the other workers were so limited. As soon as you open the menu, everything was overpriced from the entrée to the wine list. With no BYO, expect the wine list to be a 200-300% mark up. One of the workers came by our table so we asked about a dish. She had no idea, tried responding making no sense and literally walked off. I turned around and noticed she walked to the table behind us to talk to her native people and play with a baby! What the heck? I am assuming the lady that took our order was a front of house or floor manager with better English skills. Refresh your menu as there is a difference between PRAWNS and PRAWN as an entrée dish. When we ask you about the vintage about the wines, if you don’t know the answer best avoid it and check and come back with the correct response. You answered 2019 vintage. We ordered it and when you opened it for tasting you didn’t even check the vintage and correct yourself. Your bottles are 2017 vintage - FYI. Your dishes were definitely nothing authentic. Very small serves at excessive prices. The restaurant must have bought an abundance of broccoli for cheap, literally every dish had it as a veggie. I see that you tried to plate up the entrees with some sort of style to ensure it looked presentable for the overcharged price. Most of the time your staff were not at all attentive. Half the time they were missing. We sat a while, had our hands waving in the air seeking attention to no aval. We had to walk up to the front desk and ask for the bill. No one came around back to our table to ask how we would like to pay. We walked back to front desk and waited and waited. As I said at the time, it is absurd there is no one on floor. If you are intending on seating people in the back corner and there is a wall obstructing, at least walk about and around. Your position isn’t much use if you hid in the kitchen or the other corner of restaurant. This is one of the worst Chinese restaurant I can confidently put my hand up. Will never recommend anyone to go there...
Read moreWe believed the good reviews and foolishly booked well ahead for a very special family occasion for a Sunday lunch. The occasion I'd advised them of was not acknowledged and the lack of warmth on arrival and throughout our lunch was incredibly embarrassing. There was a lovely female waitress who did her best, but unfortunately the male manager/owner was the complete opposite and I would go as far as saying he was hostile and clearly didn't want to be there that day. We ordered lobster and he came back holding a small one up and said "One hundred and forty" which we of course assumed to be dollars as as he conveniently didn't finish the sentence with the word "grams" or say "1.45 kgs despite him later claiming he was referring to its weight. Clever tactic! One bite size morsel each atop of four small bowls of sweet drenched and unappetizing noodles that we were charged extra for ended up costing us a total of $600 with the only other things ordered being 1 serve of fried rice, 1 lemon chicken and 3 coffees!! To add further insult, the rice and chicken were tiny serves and certainly nothing special by way of flavour or presentation. So of course we are completely stunned by any good reviews for this joint. The food is anything but exceptional and unless you enjoy shocking service, below par food whilst having your arms and legs ripped off, I recommend you avoid this place at ALL costs! There are so many other wonderful places - starting with Gold Leaf down the road where we usually enjoy exceptional food and service- and would have booked in the first place had we not believed the positive...
Read moreI dined at Man Mo over the weekend to celebrate my mother's birthday. Whilst families celebrated the Mid Autumn festival and the restaurant was packed, the service was very slow and poor - they were not attentive to their customers. The experience was very subpar. Entree and crab noodles came out promptly however there was a period of approximately 40 minutes where my table and 2-3 other tables were not served with other food and with no update from the wait staff. It was evident the customers were disgruntled as we were all looking around perplexed and went on our phones to kill time. It was so difficult to flag any wait staff down as they were rushing to and from the kitchen with no eye contact or regard for customers. Teapots and cups were empty. My hypothesis is they were unprepared for the number of customers that night as they appeared understaffed so they were trying to coordinate the long line of people waiting to be sat at their booking time and only focused on a subset of tables so that they could vacate those tables for the waiting customers. The other customers/tables were left waiting for their food during that period. Food was also very average given how expensive it was. We spent more than $100 per person and were still hungry. I understand it was a Chinese festival event and it was a busy night, but there is still no excuse for lack of preparation and lack of customer service for paying customers at this very expensive restaurant. The positive is the location is very pretty as it is next to the...
