As a kid, Macca's was a reasonable dining experience for me in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s. Yeah, the food was incredibly unhealthy and filled with saturated trans fats, but it seemed to taste better compared to this modern era, particularly the fries that were awesome in those days! Although they've removed the SOME of the unhealthiest aspects of what the critics railed against, let's face it, the McDonald's menu is still full of junk food - it is what it is. Also, it seemed the restaurants were cleaner and more professionally operated back in the day. So, that brings me to my experience with the Box Hill McDonald's. It was awful. The food was average at best, with the fries l bought being overcooked, the Big Mac hardly edible, my coke was barely cold, as it had no ice in it and l can only guess it had been pre-poured earlier and the so-called "ice-cold" beverage had been sitting on the counter for an indeterminate amount of time before l purchased it. Still, at the center of this review is the actual physical restaurant, and l have to be honest, as it was that aspect of my dining experience that was appallingly bad. Let me elaborate. I was sitting eating my meal as pigeons were scavenging on the benches for crumbs, flying around, scattering feathers, and God knows what other filth in the immediate area, where l and other people were eating their meals. It's well known that pigeons are the equivalent of flying rats, and they carry parasites like lice and other disgusting diseases like salmonella in their feces. The tables looked quite unclean, and l couldn't see any of the employees wiping them down, not that they would have much time to do this as the restaurant was understaffed which is nothing unusual in the fast food industry. The decor looked as though it hadn't been updated since the 1990s, and at best it looked tired or at worst, grotty and falling apart. I really believe that the only reason this McDonald's exists is because people who shop at Box Hill Central have virtually no choice in terms of what you can eat in regards to fast food, as it's either 99% Asian, or the rest is Subways and McDonald's. That's pretty much it. Anyway, l will sum up my rant by saying that McDonald's needs to really lift their game with their Box Hill establishment, and at the very least, do a massive clean-up. Or shut it down.

Read moreThis is the most atrocious McDonald's I have ever visited. My experience here was extremely disappointing and frustrating.
First off, I placed my order and waited patiently. However, my order wasn't called out even after 30 minutes. I noticed several school kids also waiting endlessly for their orders, looking just as frustrated as I was. The place was absolutely packed, which is somewhat understandable during peak times, but the chaos was unbearable.
The restaurant appeared to be severely understaffed. The few employees who were working seemed overwhelmed and unable to keep up with the demand. This resulted in long wait times and a noticeable drop in service quality.
The cleanliness of this location was another major issue. The floors were dirty, tables were left uncleared, and the trash bins were overflowing. It seemed like no one was paying attention to maintaining basic hygiene standards, making the dining environment quite unpleasant.
After being ignored multiple times while trying to get an update on my order, I finally approached the counter a second time to ask about my fries, the only item I ordered. Only then did they hand me my fries, without any apology or acknowledgment of the excessive wait time.
This experience has left me very disappointed with this McDonald's location. The lack of organization, inadequate staffing, poor cleanliness, and indifferent customer service are unacceptable. I hope the management takes serious steps to address these issues and improve the overall...
Read moreOrdered a coffee via the McDonald's app. When I arrived, no staff were anywhere to be seen but the order was sitting up on the screen. After waiting a few minutes, observing a few people wandering around out the back, I called out and eventually a staff member came to the counter. I explained I was waiting for a coffee order (the only order on the screen) and they mumbled something and return to the back. After another couple of minutes, still no one coming to make the coffee. I could still see people doing things out the back (including the staff member who I'd spoken to) so called out again. A different staff member came this time, I explained again that I was waiting for their only order. They also just mumbled something I couldn't hear and returned to the back. Saw them speak to the other staff member, then they both returned to whatever they were doing out there. Another couple of minutes, still no one out the front, let alone making coffee...
At this point I was running out of time, I'd assumed an order for a single takeaway coffee during a quiet period wouldn't take that long. In the end I had to leave without my coffee, a refund or even an explanation as I was out of time.
To top it off, the McDonald's app has no obvious way to review an order, submit feedback or request a refund. If they do, it's hidden well or not currently functional.
