A friend of mine told me how great this place was. I looked it up and saw they were doing Christmas in July roasts just in time for my birthday lunch. We were supposed to be 4 but due to illness it was just my partner and myself and we were sorry to let them down as we know what last minute cancellations mean to small businesses but they were fine about it. We had a cocktail and a Guinness to start. Spicy Margharita - delicious and packed a punch and the Guinness was almost Dublin standards :) The service is order at the bar so there isn't this push to order too quickly so we were able to sit and enjoy our pre dinner drinks and soak up the fun atmosphere - we were upstairs at the window and had a lovely seat taking up all the fun of the other tables. We ordered a bottle of wine and lunch - Xmas roast for me (turkey and ham) and Guinness Beef Pie for him. Both came out in a good time and were hot and delicious and generous portions. Often Roasts can go wrong and can be cold, dry etc. but not mine. It was warm, tasty, succulent and I loved the cauli cheese, roasties and the veg and the stuffing was unusually yummy (again often something that goes wrong). The pie was piping hot which went down well with my partner. All of it was eaten and there was no room for any desert so we will be back again to try out other menu items. The menu is small but concise and enough for what you want in a Sunday dinner and for the size of the place they get it right. The staff were extremely welcoming. When I arrived, Marina behind the bar knew when I told her my name where I was to be seated and met us both with a huge smile and welcoming vibe despite the busyness of the place and the fact we were now 2 not 4. She brought us up to our table and gave us the lowdown on how to order etc. The other staff were also extremely friendly, chatty and great service, apologietic if things took too long (as they perceived it). It' really is unusual in this day and age to have staff so engaged and enthusiastic - considering how busy it was and the turnover of people - so huge shout out to them for smiling through a busy service period and for centring the service around the customer. It's such an important part of the experience. All up 5 stars, and really keen to go back and try the specials such as Curry Tuesday. Do yourself a favour, if you are hankering after a home made roast on this cold winter snap, get to Nancy's and treat yourself to the...
Read moreCame here with a few friends a few weeks ago and didn't leave all that thrilled. We didn't know about the 'no dancing' covid rules so mid-way through our drinks my friend briefly got up to show us a greek dance (she's greek, in case that matters) and the manager promptly walked up to us to exclaim "NO DANCING, LAST WARNING!". Not a huge deal but I dwell on these things when I can't understand them and hate feeling like I've done something wrong when I haven't.
Don't know if he confused us with other patrons but there really weren't many people there, maybe our first chance was spilling a beer when we first sat down although we apologised profusely and were assured these things happen. One of us was definitely drunk but we sent her home within minutes of sitting down, she never misbehaved though and it wasn't even her that knocked the beer. We certainly didn't do any dancing prior to said greek demonstration and we were in no way rowdy or drunk. I work bartending too and know that there are many an occasion where a very stern and possibly menacing tone is needed when approaching misbehaving patrons, and I have been a misbehaving patron myself, but we were in no way inappropriate and only unknowingly broke one rule for a split second.
Again, not exactly a huge deal but just left a sour taste in my mouth and considering the sheer range of excellent options with excellent service on Chapel we will not go back. I've been treated with respect while overtly intoxicated at 'One Six One' so the bars pretty low here guys (pun intended). I just want to have a drink and not be randomly accused of a mystery crime and afforded the respect to either have said crime explained to us, or to not be mistaken for other patrons, or whatever on earth...
Read moreI can not express how perfect this venue was for my Finances birthday party, the atmosphere upstairs was Incredible plenty of space for 25+ people to eat, drink, and move around comfortably. The food was delicious as well, that steak sandwich I had was really really well cooked (just be sure to have napkins on hand when you get it, it's that juicy!) But above all else the real stand out was the staff, you could tell they all really enjoyed their job and were having fun the whole night. A massive massive MASSIVE thank you to Will the manager who was so cool, professional, and accommodating of all our requests big and small. Seriously the service he provided was the standout part of the night! Owen as well did wonderful we found out it was his first day and never worked in a bar before, and you would never know. He was friendly, smiling and chatting with us and yet also felt invisible when he was collecting glasses, they seriously just seemed like they disappeared sometimes. I would 1000% recommend anyone who's looking for a birthday on chapel Street to speak to Will and get a booking. We certainly will be...
