Seriously what an amazing place to shop! I’m so upset I’m from Sydney because if I lived here I would shop here every single day !!! The food options are insane, You start from organic produce and fruit shop to fruit shop, flower shops, organic eggs, organic honey, organic mushroom shop. Then you have the Asian section with amazing quality Asian food. Then you have the Italian fresh pasta store where you can buy fresh nonna pasta and premade meatballs and lasagne , then you go inside the deli and find the most insanely delicious cakes and ready made meals and salads. It’s just amazing. Filter coffee shops and beans and when you go outside you will find a beautiful little musical ensemble performed by 3 friendly gentlemen and outdoor food carts. Not to mention the entire section of fresh gourmet meat! I can spend hours and hours here. What an amazing place to go get groceries from.

This market truly represents what Melbourne is all about : Multiculturalism at its best , truly evident in the food and produce it offers from all around the world: fresh, clean and filling. Check out the @prahranmarket website for more info. Oh and Did I say great coffee? There are separate sections for deli, meats, fresh produce, cheese, food stalls, coffee, plants, flowers and a central kitchen for demos and tastings. There is no way you wouldn't smile when coming out of this place. Opening Hours: The Market is open every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Food tours: Hidden Gem Foodie Tours held monthly that run for approximately 90 minutes and are packed full of delicious tastings and trader encounters. Events: There are so many events that take place everyweek that are worth checking out. See market website for info.

We visited the Parhran Market on Tue. Quiet and peaceful, contrast with lively and actions of the South Melbourne Market. We had a chicken and leeks pie ($8.50) and a German bratwurst with sauerkraut and onions bun ($13.09) . Both were not great. The pie crust was thick and hard. The bratwurst and sauerkraut were not flavourful as we had expected. And I believed either the sauerkraut and/or the chilli sauce had given me trouble on my stomach. However, my daughter was delighted to find the oysters were very fresh, and she tried 3 sources - Sydney (not to her liking), Tasmania and Coffin Bay (the best - tastiest, plump and well-balanced salinity). Overall, it was worthwhile to make a trip out from Central Melbourne. We bought from the shop selling samples of clothing from Pink Mink label at a steal. Happy, rewarding trip!

Being a short walk from the Prahran or South Yarra station, its actually not that difficult to get to using the trains. There is a little outdoor area with quite a few food stalls. Inside the main market not only are there food stalls, but there are also delis as well as grocers and meat shops. The market is open and has quite a lot of things to look at. I quite liked the different produce shops around the market selling a huge variety of fruits and vegetables. There are also a lot of smaller stalls scattered in between the larger ones so there is a huge selection of products. The seafood and meat section is off to one side of the main warehouse, again with a range of different shops in one area. The market isn't the biggest but did have quite a lot of really nice products.

Must see place if you are in and around Chapel Street & Prahran area... The fresh produce, meat market and speciality shops are on the next level in terms of overall presentation of goods, prices are ok (some really expensive and some even competitive with supermarkets) and almost every shop/stall has something interesting to offer if you look closely. They are currently renovating the front entrance area, there are seasonal & daily experiences on offer (live music, face painting, etc.) in the court area at the back and there is a multilevel parking (pay) and some free 2P parking behind the multilevel CP. Wheelchair accessible throughout and an overall great experience.
