I'm totally disgusted and angry with Stonnington Council and the Prahran Market Management under Noel Dempsey, that the wonderful iconic community asset has been reduced to hosting egos. Forcing valued long term tenants out with blackmail (sign the waiver for less than the Victorian mandatory 5 year retail lease term) and forced closures because tenants wouldn't sign minimum lease and couldn't afford the extraordinary cost of renovating their shop premises demanded by management if they wanted to stay. In cahoots with Stonnington Council who owns the Prahran Market, Noel Dempsey has a passion for brand/marketing & operational excellence, but has no idea whatsoever about customer service, tenant loyalty, and supporting the community with hard to find specialty stores. He wants glamour and food retailers. How much food does a local market need? We want variety, not more fancy, expensive food. We want specialty stores that can offer Christmas wrap, cooking containers, picnic items, you name it and Josephine's family business of 35 years at the Market has been kicked out; anyone who knows Prahran Market knows her store. Essential Ingredients wanted to do a deal to save the store in the Market and were told no, and kicked out. The hardware shop is out shortly, Periwinkle as joined with its next door fish monger, so now fish prices are higher. I could go on. The management and marketing of this new, modern Prahran Market is a travesty. Google Prahran Market and you'll read ".... varied mix of sought after eateries and specialty stores. It’s our vibrant community of highly-skilled traders and knowledgeable staff that sets us apart from the rest. Whether you’re on the hunt for an unusual ingredient, need advice on seasonal produce or want to know how to prepare your next meal, our traders are only too happy to help!" I couldn't find the ingredients I need for a particular dish in any of the traders. No mention of any variety items that don't have anything to do with expensive food. This management, supported by Stonnington Council, have lost the concept of the Market, should be ashamed at what it has done. South Melbourne Market now offers so much more than Prahran Market, with much better prices on all fresh produce, and variety stores. I will still buy the odd item from Prahran Market until that retailer is kicked out, but for my twice weekly shop, I'll be taking my money to South Melbourne Market, where tenants and community still count to the council and...

Prahran Market is one of Melbourne’s true icons — a vibrant, bustling food market that brings together the very best in fresh produce, specialty ingredients, and artisan products. It’s more than just a place to shop; it’s an experience that celebrates food, community, and culture.

The range is outstanding. From fruit and vegetables that are fresher and more vibrant than anything you’ll find in a supermarket, to high-quality meat, poultry, and seafood, every stall showcases produce that has clearly been chosen with care. The variety is huge — whether you’re after everyday staples or something rare and unique, you’ll find it here.

The specialty stores make the market truly special. There are artisan cheesemongers, butchers, fishmongers, bakers, coffee roasters, chocolatiers, and spice merchants, all with an incredible knowledge of their craft. Shopping here is never just a transaction — stallholders are passionate about what they sell and always happy to share advice, recipes, or tastings. It’s this personal touch that makes each visit memorable.

Food lovers will also appreciate the ready-to-eat options. From fresh pastries and sandwiches to international street food, there’s no shortage of places to grab a snack or a meal while you shop. The market buzzes with energy, and it’s a perfect spot to meet friends, enjoy a coffee, and soak up the atmosphere.

The space itself is beautifully maintained, with a mix of heritage character and modern convenience. It’s easy to navigate, clean, and always lively without being overwhelming. Events, cooking demonstrations, and seasonal celebrations make the market feel like the heart of the community.

What I love most about Prahran Market is the sense of connection — to food, to tradition, and to people. Every visit feels like a reminder of why fresh, quality produce matters and how much joy can come from shopping locally.

Prahran Market is more than just a market — it’s an essential Melbourne experience and a must-visit for anyone...

The market boasts an impressive array of stalls that cater to all tastes, making it a must-visit destination. The quality of fresh fruit and vegetables at Prahran Market is exceptional. Local farmers provide seasonal produce that not only looks appealing but also bursts with flavor. You can find everything from organic greens to exotic fruits, ensuring you have plenty of options for your culinary creations. Among the standout offerings are boutique stalls like those selling artisanal honey and farm-fresh eggs. These vendors take pride in their products, often sharing stories about their sourcing practices which adds a personal touch to your shopping experience. The delis here are a treasure trove for anyone who appreciates homemade goods. From delectable cakes and sweets to flavorful dips and freshly baked breads, there’s something for everyone. Notably, Maker & Monger offers delightful cheese sandwiches paired perfectly with a cheeky Bloody Mary—an ideal way to recharge while exploring the market. Don’t miss Q Le BAKER! Their salted caramel choc chip cookies are nothing short of divine—a true indulgence that will satisfy any sweet tooth. The food court area enhances the overall experience with its diverse mix of eateries and occasional pop-up food stalls. This space allows visitors to sit down and enjoy meals made from high-quality ingredients sourced directly from the market itself.

In comparison to larger markets around town, Prahran may be smaller in size but excels in quality and charm. It’s an excellent starting point for your day of shopping in the local area, offering both convenience and an enjoyable atmosphere. Overall, whether you're looking for fresh groceries or simply want to indulge in some gourmet treats, Prahran Market delivers on all fronts—making it a beloved spot among locals and...

Located at 163 Commercial Road, South Yarra, Victoria, Australia šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ. When you compare these markets to the Queen Victoria Markets, the Prahran are a lot better arranged in terms of getting around, they are more spacious. Saying that, the prices are definitely higher. So I wouldn’t expect to come here looking for a bargain. The selection items here is fantastic, everything from seafood, confectionery and nuts, flowers, meat and poultry, delicatessen’s and other specialty products. The choice is huge. There’s also a good range of options to get a snack or have lunch or breakfast. The traders are so friendly and welcoming. So willing to help you out with anything. The courtyard is wonderful, you can sit and catch up with friends and family and watch the sports on the huge screen. I found a bubble waffle šŸ§‡ and it was so delicious šŸ˜‹ and decadent. My friend got on also. There is free parking šŸ…æļø on market days from 7.00 am to 11.00am at the Elizabeth Street car park. The Market trading hours are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7.00am until 5.00pm and on Sunday from 8.00am until 3.00pm. However, some traders might operate outside those hours. Best to check with the trader you are interested in visiting. You can get to the Market by train šŸš† (Sandringham Line from Flinders Street Station, getting off at Prahran Station and walking another 5 minutes). Or you can get the Tram 🚃, Route 72 or Route 6, both will drop you off a quick walk to market. I am so glad I came here to see what the fuss was about. Definitely worth visiting. Thumbs up!!! šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘

Walking into Melbourne’s Prahran Market feels like stepping through a doorway into a world of flavor and lifestyle aesthetics. It is not just a market, but more like a flowing poem—fresh fruits and vegetables glisten under the sunlight, the seafood section carries the salty scent of the ocean, and the aroma of handmade bread and cheese lingers gently in the air. The stallholders wear sincere smiles, each of them knowing the story behind every cut of meat and every piece of produce, always ready to share the best way to cook and enjoy it. Choosing ingredients here feels like having a conversation with nature, and every purchase brings a sense of genuine happiness. Walking out of the market with bags full of fresh produce, a quiet joy rises from within: life’s beauty is not complicated. Sometimes, it’s simply about finding your own taste of warmth and delight in this vibrant and heartfelt marketplace.
