The namesake genius has won pastry chef of the year and I’ve been a long term fan of his work at Le Petit Gateau.
We kicked off with a round of perfect pastries, my favourite of which were the apple turnover, the soaked raisin and the triple chocolate brioche. There was a hugely impressive variety here, just about everything you could hope to see in a Parisian bakery was available in all its flaky goodness. Paired with the white choc coconut hot chocolate- I was in heaven.
For breakfast I enjoyed the ricotta hot cake. This was darker in appearance then the usual hotcake on the brunch scene but was very enjoyable and a great one for winter with the addition of all the warm berries. The seeds gave it a textural crunch that really elevated it too. The wagyu burger was the other standout for me with its house made brioche bun. I loved the miso mayo on this one too.
We finished with a selection of delectable cakes. I immediately gravitated to the lemon tart. This was a very sour rendition so if you’re after something sweet my pick would be the Charlotte Tiffany. This dessert is named for Pierrick’s daughter and is a decadent delight. Filled with airy chocolate mousse it had the perfect texture and a delicious flavour. Charlotte Fraise is similar in appearance except in a pale pink rather the Tiffany blue. Someone commented it tasted like strawberry ice cream and it’s an apt description. They are also available in larger sizes for...
Read moreReverie Cafe & Dessert is located on Izett Street in Prahran. Owned by Chef Pierrick Boyer of Le Petit Gateaux this cafe is what dessert dreams are made of. Offering a range of incredible cakes, pastries & coffee as well as a brunch/lunch menu, Reverie has a gorgeous modern fitout & I must admit I am a regular customer although I’m yet to try the brunch menu as my eyes gravitate towards the cakes.
The passion brownie & berry brownie are favourites of mine, deliciously decadent & the fanciest brownies I’ve ever seen. All the cakes are stunning & I will eventually try all of them as I tend to take one to go when leaving. All the tiny details even in the gorgeous embossed take away boxes, so much class & elegance.
The parking around Prahran due to construction has affected foot traffic but that is yet to deter me & roadworks should be completed soon which will make Reverie an even busier patisserie.
Reverie has also opened outlets in Westfield Doncaster & the CBD so plenty more options to access these impressive desserts & meet the...
Read moreOwners are rude, and treat their staff horrendously; overworking and underpaying them (only paying base rate on public holidays and not paying for additional hours worked when busy to the point of overtime) and then blaming it on COVID when they cannot find Front of House staff. They have an entire team of culinary students in the back that they do not pay (under the guise of placements/internships) and will build their entire reputation on the creations of these exploited workers. They love berating and verbally abusing their employees in French so that most customers don't hear anything, but then they turn around and act the nicest and sweetest they can be to customers.
They remove low star reviews to keep their ratings up. I left a review previously and it's gone.
If you want to support terrible people, I'd highly...
