Oscar Cooper, I'd like to offer you candid feedback. In a sea of cafes, it's crucial to make a mark. During our recent visit, it was really, like at its forefront, felt like there was and still is a real opportunity for improvement. The cafe, despite its tasteful font on its sign out front, seemed to give off.. a somewhat tired ambiance.
Our expectations were set high, considering it's in South Yarra and unfortunately, they weren't quite met. The prices, in all honesty, didn't align with the experience. It's off putting experiencing that...
Most of the staff appeared too fatigued to elevate the experience to match the price of the very basic food we ordered, and I don't think that's just the staffs fault, as a business is run by management, so it's not the staffs complete turn to improve, rather those that run the place, keep that in mind before they receive too much pounding for this... honestly? really, honest review, yeah? ☺️
It felt like there was a lethargic vibe in the air, and the meals, though written with flair on the menu, didn't quite live up to their promised expectation. This perceived lack of honesty in the cafe, which was otherwise aesthetically pleasing but still somewhat tired looking, this left us with mixed feelings. We wondered whether perhaps the business isn't doing too well, or if its convenient placement on a bustling street in a niche suburb allows some shortcomings... to be overlooked.
In any case, our initial excitement was met with a hard-to-ignore contrast between the cafe's representation and the reality of the service and food, exacerbated by the presence of slightly sticky tables. It felt like a place that had seen better days, with its interesting sign out front to somewhat be deceiving. We couldn't help but sense from the start that there was nothing particularly special about it, and that expectation unfortunately held true.
While some of the staff members were indeed friendly, there seemed to be a lack of genuine care about the overall environment. It's important to remember that in a cafe, people that wander inside pay not just for a meal but for the entire experience. And whether it's consciously noted or not, it's this holistic-like experience that forms their impression, keeping them coming back, or avoiding the place as a sort of mentally black listed hang out. You can imagine, you sort of go 'Nahh.. not that one.. not a vibe'
Comparatively, I personally couldn't help but recall our experience at Grill'd, a franchise, where we've really enjoyed fantastic, meticulously crafted burgers that feel like a steal for the price. The disconnect between what Oscar Cooper presented and what we experienced, combined with the presence of slightly sticky tables, left us longing for a different place to spend a special moment.
Consider this soft yet truly honest review as a friendly nudge to elevate your game. In the competitive world of cafes, there's immense potential for Oscar Cooper to truly shine considering its placement and already 'alright' foundation. Build on it! I'm happy to revisit when things have taken a turn...
and get some brighter lights in...
Read moreMy husband and I used to go to Oscar Cooper regularly when we lived in Melbourne, but our recent trip there was a total letdown. The service took a nosedive, and the whole experience was just downright disheartening.
We strolled in, got a casual greeting, and were told to pick our seats, with the promise that help was on the way. Little did we know, this marked the start of a seriously dragging and frustrating saga.
After 25-minutes, we decided to flag down a waitress to order drinks. She assured us she'd be right over. Another 20 minutes slid by, and we were still menu and water-less. Getting fed up, my partner tried to order some coffees at the counter and snag some menus, only to get a blunt "not happening right now" response.
Fast forward 15 more minutes, and finally, someone took our order. We gave up on waiting for menus and just checked out the online version, only to be told it's outdated.
Our patience disappeared after an hour of waiting just to place our order. When the food did show up, it was delicious, but definitely not worth the hefty price tag. Additionally, it took 40 minutes before our food actually got to us.
Instead of playing the waiting game again, we decided to bail on dessert and coffee plans and find a place that vibed with us better.
The staff at Oscar Cooper didn't offer any kind of apology or a nod in our direction throughout the whole ordeal. That was the breaking point. We're usually cool and understanding, but this time, the disregard for our time and experience was next-level. Sadly, this sour experience has us crossing Oscar Cooper off our list of go-to spots...
Read moreI got the pub’s reply with lies, my bf never said anything he was waiting for me at the table with other friends, everything happened with 1 min that I got there, he has no proves that I was drunk. This is a really bad situation and I will return at the place in the morning I really wanna talk to the owner, because as I said I go to this place for a very long time for breakfast and everyone was amazing to us this is was our first time there since they opened at night. I’m not sure why they are lying but this is so disappointing.
I’m incredibly disappointed by my recent experience at this pub. My boyfriend and I have always enjoyed coming here for breakfast, and the staff has always been kind and welcoming—until now.
During our last visit, I tried to order a beer for my boyfriend, but the barman refused. When I asked why, he said I was drunk, which was absolutely untrue. To make matters worse, he made a condescending comment about “seeing girls like me before.” This was deeply offensive and hurtful, and I was so upset that I ended up crying right there.
I asked to speak to the manager because I wanted to understand why I was being treated this way and requested an apology from the barman for his inappropriate remarks. However, he refused to apologize.
Feeling disrespected and unwelcome, my friends and I decided to leave. This was such a heartbreaking experience because I used to love this place. I can no longer support a venue where staff members treat customers with such disregard and refuse to take responsibility for their actions. Sadly, I won’t...
