I’ve been a loyal customer of Angus & Bon for over two years, frequently visiting with friends and family, but after this past Saturday’s experience, I’m not sure I’ll be returning.
Our group of six had a 6:00 PM reservation, and we arrived only two minutes late at 6:02 PM. We ordered drinks, which took a little longer than expected, but that wasn’t a big deal. After about 20 minutes, we placed our food order, which also took an hour to arrive. While it was a long wait, we did not mind, and when the food finally came, it was delicious.
However, the evening quickly took a turn for the worse when the plates were cleared and we were offered the dessert menu. The waiter, who had been friendly and attentive throughout, returned at 7:30 PM to inform us that the manager had instructed him to ask us to move outside if we wanted dessert, as another table was scheduled to arrive at 8:00 PM. This was incredibly frustrating for us, especially since it was raining outside.
I expressed my disappointment to the waiter, explaining that we had every right to order dessert after a long meal, and we weren’t at fault for the delays in food service. To my surprise, the manager Toby came down to address the issue. Unfortunately, he was rude, dismissive, and argumentative. He falsely claimed we were 20 minutes late for our reservation (which we weren’t), and when I tried to explain, he cut me off and told me he wasn’t “looking for an argument.”
Eventually, the manager came back and offered to extend our table by 15 minutes and allow us to order dessert. By this point, however, the experience had soured completely. We declined and asked for the bill instead. The manager did attempt to make amends by removing a round of drinks from the bill, but it felt like a token gesture rather than a genuine effort to rectify the situation.
At nearly $900 for the evening, it was disheartening to be treated so poorly, especially as regular customers who have enjoyed many previous visits. While the food was great, the service and the way we were treated at the end of the night left a lasting negative impression. I’m genuinely disappointed and, sadly, it’s hard to see myself returning after...
Read moreI’ve been in Melbourne for 2 years now & regret not knowing this place earlier!! It took me back to the good old days in Dubai!! Such an amazing New York Style fine dinner with an Irish pub twist in terms of vibes n interiors.
Everything was simply extravagant from the moment we walked in, Place was beautifully lit with fair lights Interiors were so chic yet casual & relaxing with comfy leather seatings n either round or long rectangular tables. Lovely Jazz night on Sundays with a beautiful jazz band that play in the background Let’s talk food!! Food was simply exceptional! The quality, the flavours n the presentation were 10/10!! We tried the following, Oysters (Tasman) King Fish was marinated in paprika n little cream, new interesting flavours that we all loved. Chorizo, chargrilled n very tasty Bread with cured butter… my my myyy just loved it! fillet steak, the quality of the meat was beyond amazing I really appreciated that they have not chosen the cheap n cheerful! But rather a great quality grass fed steak cut! Burger… was huge filled with caramelised onion+ blue cheese+ chutney sauce Char grilled carrots.
This will be our place to go from now one. Even our kids enjoyed their meal n we all couldn’t stop licking our fingers after this delicious meal!!
Can’t forget to mention the amazing service, we were helped by a the beautiful Oria whom was so knowledgeable n extremely friendly!! Definitely coming back.
Just 2 notes, King fish might need a little less paprika to pop up the flavour of the fish, we felt the fish was so fresh n great quality n the overpowering paprika just overcame the taste of the fresh fish the lady singing in the jazz band on Sunday this week had a very weak voice, we almost haven’t noticed that someone was singing as the instruments had a much stronger sound that overpowered her Other than that,
Great work team...
Read moreAngus and Bon is a New York inspired steakhouse located at in the heart of Prahran, on Greville Street. It is housed inside the old 1928 Prahran Post Office and named after AC/DC’s Angus Young and Bon Scott. 🎸
The menu focus’ on the finest local produce, including handmade pasta, fresh seafood and premium steak cuts. To drink, I tried the Yuzu Martini and South of the River and both were perfect. 😮💨
All entrees impressed, from the freshness of the Freshly Shucked Oysters, to the Kingfish in a spicy buttermilk dressing and the hearty, flaky, Beef Empanadas.
Star of the night was definitely the 800g Ribeye Steak, especially paired with the Truffle Butter. Plenty to share between two, cooked beautifully medium rare with a black salted crust. Our waiter advised us to order it Medium if we like it medium-rare due to the cut, which ended up being great advice. 🥩
For sides, the Mac and Cheese definitely delivered on cheesiness. The Lobster Mash added a boujee touch, but would’ve loved it to be more creamy. The Iceberg Lettuce was a super refreshing choice.
I know we all have a separate stomach for dessert. With plenty of delicious options I’m sure you can’t go too wrong, but the Baked Macadamia Cheesecake was another highlight for us. Ridiculously fluffy and not overly sweet. 🍰
I visited for the first time when I started this blog and it’s only gotten better. Great to see they’ve stayed consistent, producing fantastic quality dishes served with attentive, friendly service. A top contender for a steak in Melbourne!
