On a cool spring Melbourne evening after a big day of walking, a soul and hearty food is required to replenish the energy. What better place to go than Shujinko! There are a couple of this soulful franchise restaurant, we settled on this near our hotel. A good bowl of warm ramen helps to heal and depleted soul. We all had the signature ramen dish, Shujinko ramen and a couple of shared entree. The ramen stock was warm, milky and sweet. You can taste the pork bone broth melting in your mouth and slowly e fuse your throat to your tummy- certainly yummy for my tummy. The takoyaki was generous amount of benito Nas you can smell it around you in the restaurant, reminds me of the freshness of the ocean. The generous bit size chunks of the octopus was present in every chew of the lovely round ball. Goyoza is well pan fried with a brown pot sticker base. The filling as beefy and generous between a thine layer of pastry. Two sauces, a chillies and vinegary goyoza sauce is a good accomplishment. Loved my food here and momentarily transported me to streets of Japan as I slurp and drink my ramen broth. Enjoy when you visit because a full restaurant of patrons is Neve a sign of bad food.

📍 𝗦𝗵𝘂𝗷𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗼 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻 ⭑.ᐟ ❤︎ 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗱-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱: something warm and slurpable on a chill Melbourne day ❤︎ 𝗙𝗮𝘃 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗵: Shujinko signature ramen ❤︎ 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿: solo lunchers, ramen fans, or anyone needing quick comfort ❤︎ 𝗩𝗶𝗯𝗲: warm-toned ramen bar, perfect for a casual, satisfying meal ꫂ ၴႅၴ Tried Shujinko’s signature ramen and it totally hit the spot. The broth was comforting—mild, not overpowering, but still had that signature umami depth. I liked that it didn’t leave a heavy aftertaste, just a gentle savory warmth that stayed with me. The soft-boiled egg was done perfectly (creamy yolk!), and the charred pork slice melted in the mouth. That said… I have to admit I’m not a fan of bean sprouts, and there was quite a lot of them. If you’re like me and picky about textures, maybe ask to remove it next time. But aside from that, I really liked everything else in the bowl. ⴵ 𝗪𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲: quick, under 10 minutes 𐀪 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗱: medium-busy but not hectic ☼ 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱: weekend dinner ‎𐂐 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿: Shujinko Signature Ramen 𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻? 𝗬𝗲𝘀—minus the bean sprouts, I’d come back for the broth and egg alone 🍜✨

Not your typical ramen joint. There was no sheet to make custom ramen or choose what you want. The menu was preset and there wasn't a very spicy option for those who do it for the thrill. My partner got the spiciest ramen there was on the menu and it was no spicier than a jalapeno lol. I ordered the shunjinko don and it came probably around 7 minutes after my partner's ramen which kind of ruined the dining experience. I understand that some things take longer than others to prepare but 7 minutes in reality is too big of a difference. Usually, we'd wait for each other's meal before eating but it being noodles - I did not want her ramen to go soggy. So we did not end up eating together (although I finished my don before her lol). I probably wouldn't go to this particular Shunjinko again. I wouldn't rate it remotely close to the one in Glenferrie and Russell Street. The other restaurants are on another level and actually meet my needs for my love for ramen. Staffs were okay, could've been better. I would not come here again.

Dinner date/time: 5 March 2019/6pm

RUDE STAFF.

My boyfriend and I decided to have a dinner at Shujinko Flinders. To be really honest, my boyfriend wasn’t very excited to come back here due to the bad experience that we had here last time but we decided to let it pass considering that Shujinko has always been our favourite Ramen place to go.

Anyways, we sat down near the minuature wall. We ordered Karakuchi Ramen and one of their seasonal Ramen menu. We began our dinner, then there was this girl came to our table only to THROW the order receipt. You read it right. She THREW it to our table. Speechless!! Gosh. I completely understand that her intention was to put the receipt on the table, like that’s what Shujinko has always been doing all these time. I understand that the space between one table to another is so tight. But come on, did you even have to THROW it to our table? If you think that the space between tables can be a struggle for you, then tell your manager to rearrange the table setting!

What was our reaction? My boyfriend and I immediately stare at her for straight 3 seconds. She saw us staring at her, then she said sorry and left us. I still am not very happy with that. So rude.

Another thing, you treat your non-Asian customers like gold; all smile, very happy and friendly. While your Asian customers were being treated badly. Excuse me????

Both of us decided that we would never come back again at this place. I don’t even care how delicious your foods are, I wouldn’t want to come back to this place again.

Gosh, I wish there is...

I’ve been going to this restaurant for more than 5 years, even before Covid. Back then, I would have said Shunjinko was the number 1 ramen spot in Melbourne. Unfortunately, the quality has gone downhill. The soup is now watery, and the service is even worse.

I visited on a weekday evening when the place wasn’t busy. Despite many empty seats, the staff put me in an uncomfortable spot — right at the very front of the counter, next to the glass and cutlery station. For my entire meal, a staff member was constantly working right next to me. While I understand they’re doing their job, it felt intrusive and made me really uncomfortable. I even had to shift myself to get some space.

I didn’t expect 5-star service from this type of restaurant. All I wanted was to sit, eat, and leave — but instead I had to put up with loud banging noises, the constant feeling of being watched, and staff hovering over me. And then, the moment I put down my chopsticks after the last bite, the staff immediately asked if they could clear my plate — I wasn’t even ready yet. It felt rushed and made the whole experience even more unpleasant.

Sadly, I won’t be coming back. There are now many other ramen restaurants in Melbourne that offer much better food and a far more comfortable...
