Let's be honest about The Angel Tavern. What a depressing and dreary place it looks? With no competition in the area one would think people would be lined up out the door, but The Angel Tavern is consistently empty and for very good reason. It just looks like such a depressing place to enter. -----Situated on the corner of Glenferrie and Dandenong Road, The Angel Tavern is in a prime spot. Other pubs in the area are practically non-existent. They are non-existent. It is on the perfect corner, so one would expect it would have cornered the market in one of Melbourne's most affluent suburbs. But, yet. -----The front bar, with it brown faux-wood veneer table tops, attempts to cater for the few stray T.A.B. crowd. It is not really a crowd, just a few forlorn looking creatures. The back bar caters for lonely desperados who wile away the hours, looking more depressed than one could think is humanly possible, playing the pokies. The one time I was unfortunate enough to enter the back bar I had to back off as two staff members where busy pashing in the service area. ----- The only good part about The Angel Tavern is the bottle shop, and it is great that it is a drive thru, so there is no need to go inside. -----It would be great to have a pub in the area to drop by for a few beers, but being struck by a car on Dandenong Road seems preferable to the vortex of gloom that awaits within. There is some hope, apparently there has been an application to see The Angel Tavern remodeled to include a beer garden. Whether this happens or not waits to be seen. Hopefully there is still life in the old girl yet, but in it's current state the only recommendation is to stare vacantly in the windows while waiting for the traffic lights to change and thank the Gods you...

The pub side is dark , and the other side looks out onto the traffic 12 lanes of traffic could potentially see you in there as you...
Read moreThis is possibly the worst pub I’ve ever been to in my entire life. Apart from the fact its TAB and bookies orientated which automatically drops it several stars, the life has been completely sucked out of a fairly historic looking building. Amazingly enough though the food is pretty decent especially the parma but having to eat it in that pub is...
