The Butter Room is a Korean bakery and cafe located on Katherine Pl, Melbourne CBD. It is brought to you by chef and restauranteur Hong Kim (@sevenstar, @kappotora, @nanaizakaya). 🇰🇷

They draw inspiration from French baking techniques and infuse them with Korean and Asian flavours like injeolmi, matcha, hojicha, taro and yuzu, crafting an array of breads, croissants, cakes and coffees. Everything is made in house daily. 🥐

Not gonna lie, i wasn’t sure if I would find flavours I enjoyed, everything was so unique! BUT it all worked and there wasn’t anything we didn’t like, and nothing was overly sweet. We tried decent selection of their sweet and savoury treats. 🍰

⭐️ Chilli Sausage Croissant - never seen anything like it, I like that they didn’t go too sweet with the chilli! ✔️ Korean Dumpling Pie - the flavours on point, pastry got slightly soggy on the bottom. Didn’t expect the tomato sauce! ✔️ Cream Cheese Bulb - the bread was amazing, I actually wished it was a garlic butter than a cream cheese. ➖ Pan Kimchi & Spam - pretty similar to a ham and cheese croissant, Korean style. The pastry on this was incredible. ✔️ Basque Cheesecake - classic ✔️ Strawberry Shortcake - so fluffy and light! ⭐️ Tiramisu Pandoro - an unexpected favourite! A bit of fun and generous, you could share between 2-3. Not overly sweet either. ✔️ Yuzu Passionfruit Ade ✔️ Toffee Nut Latte

I absolutely respect anyone doing things that are a little outside the box and executing it well. The staff are very friendly and accomodating, helping you make what is a very hard decision. Will be back some time to try some more - I was eyeing off their Tiramisu...

🧾2nd visit: Mar 14, 2025 I left a review before, and once again, I'm back in Melbourne, skipping airplane meals just to eat this. As soon as I landed, I rushed straight here🏃‍♀️💨

Today, I tried a new menu item and it was insane!! I'm definitely taking another matcha latte to go a bit later😤

For food, I ordered the “breakfast plate” and it blew my mind🌬️ I've tried breakfast plates in many countries, but I've never tasted ingredients this fresh or flavors this rich🤌🏼🤌🏼 Chef Joo Young is GOAT, always capturing my heart with the taste😍💕 Everyone should try eating here at least once. You won't regret it.

I almost thought I had an eating disorder because I couldn't find good food in Melbourne. But after visiting this café, I realized I just hadn't found the right place to eat.

Especially when I had the Eggs Benedict, I couldn't stop exclaiming and kept pounding the table. It was so delicious that I went up to Chef Joo Young, crying, and told her how amazing it was. The table next to me was just as noisy, with two women pounding the table over the food's taste. It's a flavor that drives everyone crazy🧠💥

They said it was a new menu item launched today, and coming here was the best decision of the year. I finished my plate clean and am taking the same dish home.

I truly love Chef Joo Young. Every time I come to Melbourne, I'll be running to this place...
