O'Kane is not quite like your typical Vietnamese restaurant. The moody and intimate lighting, the bar seating, and the comfy and plush interior aren't often associated with Vietnamese eateries. However, the food left me no doubt about its merit.
My friend and I came for lunch and were treated to a wonderful feast. Starting off with prawn rice paper rolls, these prawns were so fresh and juicy, and the thin rice paper rolls were delightful. We also had the Grilled Combination which comprised of pork skewers, beef wrapped in betel leaves, pork patties (nem nuong), and grilled chicken breast, served with a side of green papaya salad. The pork patties were the most delicious of the bunch, with its garlicky, aromatic and smoky flavours.
Next up was the caramelised pork belly and this was, without a doubt, our favourite dish. The sauce had a hint of sweetness underlying it, and was bold and punchy courtesy of the black pepper. The pork belly was extremely tender and moist, and this dish would go well with both rice and bao. That sauce is made for slurping, don't let any of it go to waste.
I also really enjoyed the salt and pepper silken tofu, and silky it was. The crisped outer layer and the silky inside went hand in hand, providing a textural delight with each mouthful. Well-seasoned and executed skillfully, what else could you ask for?
We ended our meal with the banana in sticky rice smothered in lush coconut cream. The almond flakes provided the much needed crunch, and the pandan sauce added an extra element of flavour.
So much delicious food, and we were left rubbing our tummy in...
Read moreTerrible Experience - Avoid this Restaurant!
My recent visit to this restaurant was an absolute disaster, and I would strongly advise everyone to steer clear of this place. I had high hopes after receiving a recommendation, but it turned out to be a colossal disappointment.
To start, we ordered the fried chicken, hoping for a delicious and freshly made dish. However, what we received was cold and clearly not prepared recently. When we questioned the waitress about its freshness, she initially claimed it was fresh but quickly took it away and mentioned they would remake it. It was evident that they were aware the chicken had been sitting out for far too long. The fact that they served us the initial batch within 10 minutes of ordering, when the second serve took over 20 minutes for properly cooked , raised serious concerns about their food quality and service.
Furthermore, the behavior of both the waitress and, I assume, the managers was utterly unprofessional. They shamelessly ate in front of all the customers, giving off a terrible impression. It is hard to trust a restaurant that doesn't even exhibit basic professionalism and respect for their patrons.
Considering the subpar food, the indifferent service, and the unprofessional conduct, I will never set foot in this establishment again. Save yourself the disappointment and find a better dining option elsewhere. There are plenty of other places that offer great food, attentive service, and an overall pleasant dining experience. This restaurant is simply not worth your...

I recently dined at Lui Boss Brunswick, the only Korean restaurant in our area, and wanted to provide some feedback. Overall, the food was satisfactory, but there are areas that could be enhanced.
Korean cuisine has a charming street food vibe, akin to Mexican food. The Korean fried chicken was enjoyable, as expected.
However, I had the Seafood Kimchi Stew and while the soup itself was delightful with perfectly cooked silken tofu and eggs, I was disappointed with the seafood ingredients. It seemed that the cheapest frozen options available at Asian groceries were used, including small, rice-sized shrimps.
As someone who worked as a chef for 10 years, I understand the challenges of sourcing some particular products in Australia. Nevertheless, I would like to suggest using better quality prawns, even if fresh clams are hard to come by. This would greatly improve the Seafood Kimchi Stew, as it is advertised as a seafood dish.
Additionally, I noticed that Lui Boss could be more generous with the side dishes, as is customary in most Korean restaurants.
I offer this feedback as a friendly tip, hoping that Lui Boss will consider these suggestions to further improve their offerings.
Despite this, Lui Boss offers a unique dining experience in the area, and I wish them success. With a few adjustments, they have the potential to stand out as a remarkable Korean restaurant in...
