Out with the old grunge… in with the new refurbished aesthetic ✔️ Gertrude Hotel’s rebrand makes you feel like you walked in to an Eastside establishment in South Yarra or Richmond. Clean colour scheme and gorgeous choice of textiles.

As for the food, we ordered the crab linguine and steak frites (not served with salad), so be sure to order that as a side if you want greens. We ordered two steaks; rare and medium rare. The Scotch fillet cut was a generous size (300g) but I was disappointed that both steaks had the same level of rareness. Normally I can’t eat rare steaks (it was super chewy) but I was too hungry to send it back, and didn’t want to waste food. If you’re the same, order your steak ‘medium’ to enjoy the grain fed tenderness.

If you’re going in a big group, be sure to make a reservation. It was pretty busy in the pub area on a Saturday night as the footy was on the TV so we were pretty lucky to get a seat for 3 adults with no booking.

Highly recommend and definitely will be back. Gertrude hotel had been on our list for a while, specially due to their gluten free accredited menu (My partner has coeliac disease). We stopped by for dinner on a Tuesday night, and we were really hungry. We ordered the fries, fried chicken for the sides and she went for crab linguini (all Gluten free) and I went with the Chicken Parmigiana. Everything was absolutely delicious, the prices might seem a bit steep at first, but considering the portions and the quality, we were extremely happy (also, considering the economy, I'd say their pricing is justified). Very very tasty stuff. The service was great, the FOH staff checked in on us quite a few times to make sure everything was good. The atmosphere, the lighting, the design and also the music; everything was on point. We walked out happy knowing that we have found a new spot for our dinner dates. Thank you once more...

Service is terrible and unfriendly. The tables on the terrace dripped black paint all over us. Ruined my husbands new trousers and and also leaked onto my handbag. We spent the rest of the meal standing as couldn’t sit at the table whilst it was dripping black paint.

The food was ok but nothing special. We spent over $200 on a couple of pizzas, chips, broccolini and tomato’s with cheese plus a couple of aperol spritz. Wouldn’t recommend this place nor bother coming back. Asked for tomato sauce for our chips and basically staff couldn’t be bothered- was told, try asking the bar. Told someone on staff about the paint leaking and they didn’t give a $&@? Just such bad basic customer service.

Very noisy. You can hardly hear anyone in your group talk. They had some kind of monotonous dirge music which was weird and did nothing for the atmosphere.

Very disappointing considering it was on a ‘recommended list’...
