New place in Darby and can say it’s a must try , I had the prawn toast with a side of duck egg scramble and a dirty chai The venu was semi quiet since it’s a fairly unknown place only opening recently
The Coffee Dirty chai was subtle but had a nice flavour they use a blend by merlo a Australian family owned business based in Brisbane, the chai itself was a mellow flavour and I think it’s powder vs a steeped tea leaf Tea is by mayde originating in Byron bay they have a wide selection available
Food Prawn toast w/ duck scramble The duck scramble was velvety and smooth and the chefs were very accommodating doing it by special request , duck eggs are also a rare ingredient to see in cafes around this area nice to try Now for the star the prawn toast I was a bit sceptical at first seeing the dish with whole fried prawns thinking it was some deconstructed or alternate take but after the first bite I was in awe , crunchy sourdough seemingly soaked with the prawn mixture that paired well with the textural elements of the salad and whole the onions were also a stand out I was wondering how they got them to be that way
Cabinet / Pastries To finish off I saw the cabinet and was informed that they are all made in house , so I had a lemon tart and the polish on these was great and to a high standard
All in all a great little cafe and good to see more diversity in Darby street , only note is I’d consider it a little expensive but besides that the flavours of the...
Read moreThis is a nice cafe in Newcastle with a very nice vibe. I would've given 5 stars if the serving sizes vary with dish. I ordered the potato rosti, which was nice, but it didn't have enough trout and could go with another poached egg. Otherwise, good flavour profiles. The eggs Benedict was nice and had a good serving, but the pork that was served with it was dry and could've been sliced for the customer. The young lady who served us was full of energy and hospitable and made us feel welcome. The drinks we ordered were delicious, I wish I had ordered a coffee but I could see from the other customers that they were happy. Overall, it's a good cafe with those little changes...
Read moreThe revamping of an historic building has been done very well. The menu was wide enough to cover a range of flavours. The meals were a piece of art, and tasted as well as they looked. A reasonably wide wine list of lesser known wineries but the Victorian Shiraz lived up to expectations. We were upstairs on the outside verandah with a comfortable cross breeze, but the wait staff regularly checked to see to our needs. The fresh bottle of water arrived without needed to be requested. For Darby Street, the prices seemed very reasonable. Highly recommend for a meal for two or a larger group. The online booking was easy to follow and...
