The Lost Souls — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

We went to The Lost Souls on a Wednesday night for my wife’s birthday and took along our 3 young children (8, 6 & 2).

We went for the banquet option, one serving for each parent and one serving to divide between the kids. The three banquet servings came out combined, i.e. one larger plate of chats rather than 3x individual serves. This worked really well plus there would not be enough room on the table for all of the plates otherwise haha. The dishes served had a great variety, very well prepared and most important of all, delicious. The 3x banquet serves were more than enough for all of us in the end.

My wife enjoyed her birthday cocktail of a blackberry dark and stormy. The beer selection was decent with several craft options but a bit disappointing not to see any local breweries on the menu. It would be great to see something like a Shout Brewing pale ale and/or IPA available. The homemade soft drinks were a hit with the kids too.

It was rather quiet being a Wednesday night but I’m sure it gets busy on the weekends. The decor is charming, quirky, antique style. The staff were very friendly and helpful with recommendations but also restrained enough to give us our own space and time.

Love everything about this place! The staff are so wonderful, the food is sooo good! I had high expectations and yet it was still exceeded! Can’t wait to come back.

Food wise, we shared all of it amongst the three of us and that was a perfect amount. We had the two cobs (eggplant and carbonara) and then the glazed cauliflower & the pork belly pieces. Every dish was incredible! I’m not huge on cauliflower and yet this was probably my fav! It was so good. Reminded me of honey chicken but it didn’t leave you feeling yuck or anything. It was great. Having the mixture is the way to go. And price wise, it’s very generous and well worth it.

Really excellent experience. Met with a bunch of old school friends. I picked it from Google reviews so was hoping it would deliver. It did. Food and wine both amazing, and delivered fast. We tried almost everything from the menu, all terrific. Quirky interior appealed, adding to the ambience, and not pumped with unwelcome music. Big tick. My only suggestion, make ordering/payment options clear. As the host, I want to enjoy time with my guests, not be going back and forth to the bar with additions. All around, an...
