Breakfast Disappointment – Poor Communication, Quality & Service at Cugina on Hay, Mercure Hotel Perth I visited Cugina on Hay, the café which is part of Mercure Hotel Perth, Went for breakfast with two very hungry children and unfortunately, the experience was frustrating from start to finish. I ordered two sandwiches and two chicken wraps, but only received one of each. I wasn’t overcharged, but it was clear the staff member misunderstood my order. When I tried to explain, she couldn’t understand me, and another staff member stepped in—who was stand-offish and dismissive when I asked about the mix-up. No apology, no offer to fix it. The $70 breakfast I did receive was extremely underwhelming. The tomato and cheese sandwich was dry and barely toasted, made with basic white bread. The wraps were mostly lettuce and a ton of avocado with hardly any chicken. I took the coffee back to my room, only to find it was burnt and bitter—but with two small hungry kids, I couldn’t exactly go back down to complain. The café was also clearly understaffed, and overall, the Mercure Hotel Perth feels outdated and not up to the standard you’d expect from a hotel claiming 4star when although not the worst feels more like 3star If you’re expecting quality, efficiency, or even just a decent breakfast—Cugina on Hay isn’t the place. There are far better, cheaper and more welcoming spots in Perth I should have gone the lazy McDonald's option atleast you get what...
Read more'Cucina' is Italian for kitchen. And certainly the decor when you walk inside this cafe/ restaurant has an Italian theme.
But the food is much more varied. The brekkie menu ranges from your savoury dishes (such as eggs Benedict, sardines on toast, poached eggs with buffalo mozzarella) thru to fruit and yoghurt, acai, or waffles with berries.
In fact, I'd rate their breakfasts as some of the best I've tried...( and I've tried quite a few cafe breakfasts over the years). There are at least 10 different meals to choose from for brekky alone.. and each one has its own interesting taste.
Plenty of tables of different types inside- eg for business deals, pre-Court conferences, or just the family meal.
And weather permitting, there are several tables outside to enjoy the streetscape and 'passing parade'.
Hanna is usually there to greet you with a smile...and she is just the most perfect example of a friendly waitress- always considerate, thoughtful, and she has a great sense of humour!!!
Cucina on Hay is on Hay Street in the East end, 3 doors down from the corner of Hay and Irwin Street. It's an ideal location, across from Westin and just near the Courts precinct.....(Hence it is not uncommon to see lawyers meeting with their clients at Cucina , or just enjoying a 'pre -...
Read moreTerrible service. Ordered two takeaway coffees, and the waitress ignored making our order for 10 mins, despite the fact there were no other customers in the cafe. The waitress then proceeded to make a milkshake for herself despite our order being outstanding. When questioned, the waitress proceeded to say payment didn't go through even though we showed her evidence of our bank transaction. The manager then had to step in and subsequently made our coffees, which only took a minute, but he got our order wrong and made us the wrong coffee. By that time, we had been waiting for 15 minutes, so we told him not to worry about remaking the coffees. To top it off, the beans were burnt. Would not recommend coming here for coffee. The service and attitude from the waitress was the biggest disappointment from the...
