Don't get me wrong, the hotel was beautifully clean BUT the bed was rock solid, decor dated and relevant information about discounted parking was not passed across, resulting in us paying a lot more.
Next we move onto the buffet dinner and breakfast. Dinner was sad, nothing tasted fresh including the salad. The only thing I enjoyed was the delicious sourdough which was hilariously labelled as "edible"; perhaps just a bit lost in translation? My partner in crime loves seafood and sadly did not enjoy it at all. Mussels undercooked, prawns chewey and oysters slimy and not fresh.
Personally I'm a dessert person, I save myself for the final course. I was in love with the selection although after grabbing my two favs; Pavlova and profiteroles, I was left feeling empty inside. The pav had a weird denseness and just tasted old and the profiterole pastry had the consistency of cardboard. For fear of more let downs I didn't revisit the dessert but had another slice of sourdough.
After a disappointing dinner we're headed to our room. The bed was very firm, so if that's your thing your in luck. The roof to floor mirror next to the bed was very unnerving. Between the various City night noises (expected), the consistent yet mildly irritating hum of the refrigerator and the extremely uncomfortable bed, we both woke feeling less than refreshed.
Ok. So now onto breakfast. We deliberated wether we skip out included buffet breakfast for fear of yet another disappointment. We manned up and went in with our expectations very low. Surprise, surprise breakfast wasn't terrible but it also want anything worth writing home about. Cooked breakfast, cereals, variety of milks, fresh fruit, pastries and more delicious sourdough.
Now for the Cherry ontop. Paying for parking over at the Wilson Parking under the Kings hotel. $37 for 20 hours. I did expect parking over night in the city to be expensive but wow. We met an old bloke at the parking pay station who had been to Miss Mauds. He paid $18 as he got some validation by the hotel, he showed us an A4 page given to him by the hotel on how to redeem t his discount parking. Whoever was supposed to relay this to us clearly didn't and we literally paid for that mistake.
So thank you Miss Mauds for an...
Read moreWe came for weekday lunch buffet, OMG the mussels and prawns are killing me!!! They are freaking fresh and good!! I thought it was stringless bean salad but it was asparagus! So refreshing and crunchy!! The mixed veggies lasagna was so good!!! My fiancé loved the chocolate cake so much and said they were the best he ever had and the whipping cream was so fresh!! There were several groups of people celebrating birthday and gathering, school lunches with 20 students, it was so busy on Monday afternoon. We came in at around half past one and we waited for other people to take the food first, we didn’t notice the time of food packing away, a blonde tall chubby female staff was unfriendly. 👎🏻 when I was half way finishing the prawn, all food were packed away, she was putting the food back on the tray so my fiancé asked if he could get a few pieces of mussels for me and got rejected. It is okay that we could not get anymore food, the problem was the way she looked at my fiancé taking a small bun liked he was stealing food!! 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ moreover she talked to other staff and laughed at us when she pushed the tray back. Besides her, other staff are very friendly and caring, especially the senior female staff and the manager Irene! 👍🏻 I’ll definitely come back for the food, the salads are very fresh, I really appreciate the eggplants,...
Read moreWas a first time solo traveler in Australia, much less Perth so was looking for a cost-effective hotel. Chanced upon this one with a Budget Single room that wasn't expensive by any means. From pictures, the room actually looked small (fine by me) but on check-in, it was actually spacious!
I had a great time here. Off the bat, the staff were all very friendly and nice, characteristic of the Perth locals, actually, and immediately gave me a great impression of the city and country.
I was imagining the room to be similar to those business hotels in Japan, but to my surprise, there was a desk, enough to hold a laptop and then some. The room also had enough space to open up a large sized suitcase. Bed was definitely big enough for 2. Honestly, I felt like it would be comfortable even for 2 travelers.
Bathroom was spacious, and the shower was actually unique and pretty cool as it was multi-jointed everywhere, so you could adjust it for any height or angle you wish.
They also had a cafe, Gabe's Deli, just next door, whereby you can 10% discount if you told them you were staying in the hotel next door. Pretty good food, great coffee, even better people working there.
Location is also prime, the city center, Northbridge, Perth train station, underground metro all within minutes' walk. 10/10 would stay here without a second thought next...
