Location convenient, although the blocks immediately surrounding hotel are not the most lively or safe feeling (large amount of homeless and drug users) unlike the west side of the CBD.
Excellent interiors and fit out, definitely was a major investment and of Westin brand standard.
Staff is hit or miss. Always efficient and never rude however, some may just be lacking that 5 Star finesse while a small minority encountered do have it and are great. Overall does not have the vibe of a happy work place.
Many signs of cost cutting throughout amenities, bordering on being offensive given the room rates it is shocking the fact that other lesser properties in Perth (eg Novotel) actually do a better job in terms of amenities.
Titanium Elite members no longer have option to enjoy complimentary breakfast in restaurant - must pay a $25 additional. I chose to do this as options in lounge were basic, in principle I don’t object to this upsell, however afterwards I did regret it. It turns out that neither paid breakfast in the restaurant or complimentary breakfast in the club lounge include barrista coffee - you must pay additional for each coffee you consume. No 4 or 5 Star properties I have stayed in the last 3 months traveling around Australia including Novotel, Sofitel, Marriott, Sheraton Grand, Ritz Carlton etc in Australia do this so that left me feeling a bit “nickle and dimed” so I just ended up going to a nearby cafe for my morning coffees. A breakfast without a decent coffee defies the purpose of a breakfast. Seems many people were complaining about this newly introduced policy.
Small details in rooms, bathroom amenities not environmentally friendly (still use plastic wrapping), need to order bathroom amenities none are provided in the room, slippers are not branded or good quality, coffee capsules are generic brand, generic brand bottled water and no chilled water dispensers for guests to fill own bottles/ carafes outside or lounge, no fresh milk provided in room (just little capsules), poor supermarket brand and quality tea bags (“Pickwicks”), sheets are relatively worn and thin, bed mattresses feel quite used and not the most comfortable (you kind of roll into a crevasse left by others over time), electronic curtain controls no longer work, no writing kits or sewing kits provided.
Small details in restaurant and lounge including no individual butters, poor brand and quality tea, very small plates, pastries poor quality - frozen semi finished catering variety, limited Asian options, limited fresh fruit options, lack of non-pork and non-beef protein options.
Housekeeping “forgot” to make up my room on third day. Bed linens were not changed and seemed well worn, thin, old and felt a little dirty with hairs and crumbs. Also rubbish left in hallways all day long.
Many biting insects in restaurant and club lounge (mosquitos and sandflies) and potentially even in room. Ended up absolutely covered in big red bites even though I hardly left the hotel during my stay… had to buy and wear insect repellent indoors. Strange since over past weeks was doing many outdoor activities and never once was bitten.
Spa and pool have lockers but no one has the keys meaning no where to leave your clothes while at the pool other than on the bench. Also no sauna facilities.
Overall a beautiful property that is let down by poor attention to detail and management choices shaping the overall guest experience.. lacking a genuine competitive comparison to other hotels in Perth/ Australia which make it feel somewhat deceiving and poor overall value although these issues should be easily fixed.
My recommendation is either (a) pay a little bit more and stay at the Ritz Carlton or Como if you want a genuine 5 star experience (b) pay a fraction of the price and stay at the Novotel on Murray if you care about value for money for comparable service and comfort instead of aesthetics (c) stay here is you just want a beautiful room and don’t have high expectations regarding service, dining, location...
Read moreWe have just had the best time ever at the Westin Perth hotel.
In terms of where we actually stayed, it was a family room which felt very much like an apartment. The space was nice and big. it was bright, had two seperate rooms - a room for the for kids and a much bigger area for the main room / lounge area. Views were amazing and the finishes in the room were premium.
The service* while we were at the hotel was excellent. The process to book however was difficult. Two weeks prior we tried to make the booking and the person in reservation had a difficult time confirming our booking. His PC was then running slow and the kept on freezing which was not ideal. After 20 mins of trying the rep was not able to help secure our preferred booking. I tried booking directly online but the family room we wanted was not showing up as availablee. I called back and complained to the front office manager who was calm and considerate and said he would book us in the family room we wanted. He did this but also gave us an upgrade so we could use the Westin Club Lounge. At the time, I did not think much of this however when we were at the hotel, we popped in and didn't leave...free drinks and lovely food and service...very nice.
Location was in the city. We didn't know Perth well beforehand but every where we went appeared close and was not more than 10 to 15 minutes away.
I would add another measure to the google rating and this is Price. Compared to other 5 star hotels the Westin was excellent value for money. The room space and general feel about the place was top quality. The breakfast which was included was tasty, fresh and vast.
I cannot recommend the Westin high enough so give it a go and see what i mean.
The reason for the asterick is twofold.
Booking the family room was difficult. If i hadn't called back and complained to the front office manager, we may not have stayed the Westin. The gentleman turned a negative into a positive and welcomed us to the Westin. He reassured me that the booking was locked and that he would confirm via email despite the IT system playing up. That is first class service in my mind.
The second reason is to do with the concierge. We used a taxi service (Universal CABS rated 4.9 on google) on a couple of occasions and they were reliable and timely. When we asked for a quote to the qantas international airport we were quoted $80 by Universal Cabs. When we cross checked this with the team at Westin - i am assuming it is the concierge team - i was told it would cost $60 for a maxi taxi to the international airport. As there was a $20 difference we went with the company the hotel quoted and asked them to reserve a maxi taxi for our trip to the qantas int airport. The taxi firm, black and white taxis, arrived 20 minutes late for the booking and eventually ended up charging us $86 for the trip. The $31 additional charge was not the main problem. We were dropped off at the incorrect terminal which was a much bigger problem than first thought. Luckily we were able to rush to the correct airport terminal and get my wife and kids on the international flight in time but the whole episode ruined the end of our trip in Perth and at the Westin. The panic and real possibility of missing the flight bought my wife to tears as finding a maxi taxi was almost impossible. We had to take two taxis to Terminal 3/4 in the end and had to pay a further $110 to ensure we got...
Read moreThis hotel deserves five stars however they lost a star because of housekeeping over our few days stay.
Check-in was brilliant, the staff were excellent, we were lucky enough that our room was ready so we got in early such a bonus. The lobby area is bright and airy and colourful. Haven is lovely to relax and have a cup of coffee or a drink. Garum restaurant was excellent. Ceilings were high, Location was great and it was quiet and peaceful.
The pool area was really lovely to walk through as was the spa, unfortunately the spa is booked out eight weeks in advance or so they tell me, meaning I had no chance of getting a treatment even though I was put down on a waitlist. Which was very disappointing not being able to get even one treatment.
Our room was large, airy bright the bed was medium to firm the pillows were soft. The bathroom is big the showers are a very good size and obviously there is a separate toilet. The usual toiletries were supplied as was a coffee machine a bar fridge, desk lots of outlets for your technology and a separate couch and table. Floor-to-ceiling windows and automatic blinds and curtains. The aircon is quite and easy to navigate.
Room service was delicious and came quite promptly
We were very impressed overall, the price was good, the only concern an ongoing concern we had was with housekeeping.
Housekeeping was average, It took all day before your room was cleaned and on all occasions bar one, Coffee pods, sugar, milk and water were not replaced we had to call to get them. The dirty glasses and cups were not cleaned. When I questioned this I was told that it was because there was liquid in the glass and they thought that they were still in use. I don’t know anyone who leaves the room comes back to drink 12 hour cold coffee or wine from the night before.
On one occasion I was actually in the room when housekeeping arrived so I was there to see and watch the process. I made mention that I needed the glasses, mugs and coffee cups cleaned. The staff member tipped out the leftover wine and coffee then put a towel inside the glass and wiped it clean, no washing them in the bathroom sink or replacing them with fresh ones.
I can’t imagine how many people have drunk out of that glass and had it wiped with a towel to clean rather than it be replaced with a clean fresh glass.
Our personal toiletries on the sink were not tidied up and this area was not cleaned the sink was cleaned but the actual basin area where you leave your toiletries was not, nothing was straightened up or cleaned just left lying around.
The floor and shower area was not cleaned and over our stay our sheets were not replaced, they didn’t need to be replaced but you would expect them to be replaced after three nights. On all occasions the bed linen was just pulled up rather than being made. Being in the room meant I witnessed all of this occur first hand.
One of the robes had a coffee spill on it and the robe was not replaced.
The housekeeping staff were delightful and I feel that this is a training issue which needs to be addressed as it occurred for us every day, not just once, plus we had different cleaners not the same staff member. For example replace dirty glasses and cups don’t wipe them with a towel to clean them it’s unhygienic.
The hotel itself we would definitely recommend and stay there again...
