Just wrapped up my five night stay at the Pensione. I really enjoyed my stay. I felt comfortable, safe, and really appreciated the fact that I could walk everywhere. Staff at the hotel were very friendly, welcoming and kind. I had a Petite Queen room which was definitely small but adequate for one person. There was limited space to put your things: three clothes hangers, a coat hook, but again it was fine for one person traveling with only a small suitcase. The room was clean and provided a safe, a mini fridge, a kettle, coffee, tea, coffee cream, glasses and cups. Housekeeping was available daily. My bed was very comfortable with a soft mattress (which I love) but I noticed the room was a bit dusty. I appreciated the fact that you could open a window slightly for fresh air. Overall, the 7th floor was quiet, despite being right by the elevator. Just the room doors are rather loud when opened/ closed. The location of the hotel is one block away from the CBD. You will notice some people experiencing homelessness in the hotel vicinity, which shocked me a bit when I first arrived, but I felt safe throughout my stay as a female traveling solo. But I also never returned to the hotel later than 8pm. The location of the hotel is perfect and I could walk everywhere. Consider participating in one of the city's free walking tours! Being so close to the CBD, lots of shops, restaurants, supermarkets, cafés in walking distance. I really enjoyed the Japanese restaurant "Jigoro" a few steps from the hotel. I took the airport train ($5.20 one way) to the hotel and got off at McIver Station as instructed by Google Maps. I arrived around 7pm and the station was rather empty and only a small, poorly lit walkway lead to the main streets. It took me a while to find the correct direction and I definitely felt a bit uneasy as some unhoused people hung around nearby. If you arrive after dark and are by yourself, I advise you to get off at Perth Station. It'll take a few minutes longer to reach the hotel but it avoids the dark side streets and you'll be coming through the CBD which is well lit and there'll be people. All in all, I would absolutely stay here again primarily due to the hotel's friendly staff, its warm and cozy atmosphere and its location allowing me to walk everywhere including getting to the...

Read moreI find it hard to believe that after 31 loyal stays at the Pensione Hotel in Perth, I am leaving this regrettable review. Over time, I have observed the technological advancement of the hospitality industry, with countless establishments in Australia adapting to changes and introducing cashless transactions. However, Pensione Hotel seems to have chosen to stay stubbornly in the past.
Imagine my dismay when, upon arrival, I was informed that they do not accept the bond security to be paid by electronic tapping, a method that every other hotel I have visited in this country accepts without question. This in itself was baffling, as it is no longer 2020 but 2023, and contactless payments have been the norm for several years now.
To add to the absurdity, they insisted on a physical card for payment. It's been years since I last carried one, relying solely on digital payments for their convenience and security. To my utter shock, the reception was unyielding, stating that I couldn't stay unless I produced a physical card. This, even after confirming that the room had already been paid for, and I had provided my driver's license as ID.
What followed was a tedious hour-long argument with the front desk, trying to get them to understand the impracticality and outdated nature of their policy. It was a stressful ordeal, no one should have to haggle over such a trivial matter after a long journey. Only after much back and forth did they reluctantly accept the image of a non-business card that I found on a banking app.
The hotel's refusal to adapt to modern payment methods and the unnecessary inconvenience caused by their outdated policies have left me with no choice but to reconsider my loyalty. Sadly, this will be my last visit to...
