As much as we would like to enjoy the Gelato, we were left feeling quite sick to the stomach... as an Australian Citizen by conferral, we were not born as Aussie but we love this country, its culture and its people. 16 years of living in Australia, we have never ever experience this level of racism before.
We were visiting port Macquerie enjoying our day at the beaches. We drove pass Blue cow and after reading the reviews I told my husband that I really really wanted to try it. I know that I wanted to buy the salted coconut and pea but also wanted to grab another flavour to share. After a long que, it is our turn next, instead of calling us or calling next please, one of the female staff at the counter look at us, then over us and said whos next. We look at each other confused but then walk forward and look at the gelato bar. We ask if we can try fig and whiskey, first she was ok and scrape the top bit for us to try. Once we tried it, my partner did not like it so we look at the bar again. Because the label was facing downwards we couldnt see the name of the flavours clearly. 5 seconds is all it takes for her to give us a harsh comment. She said "do you know what you are looking at? Or are you just looking around?" In a very loud voice for everyone to hear, we look at her confused and said we are not browsing we wanted to buy and ask if we can please try macademia meringue. She said "yes but are you here just to browse?" People in the que even look at us and we felt extremely disrespected. We told her again, we are buying and she looked displeased. Not wanting to be disespected again, we decided to just go with chocolate on top of our salted coconut.
Once we paid for the gelato, she happily change her voice and serve the other customer (who's not asian) in a high positive tone.
Once we walked out, my partner felt gutted and we couldn't enjoy our gelato at all. We kept asking ourself, is that attitude towards us neccessary? Does she need to make that harsh comment?
We ended up leaving the gelato we bought melting away and our...
Read moreSo there we were, just casually wandering around for an evening stroll, when we spotted the longest line we’ve ever seen outside a dessert place. Blue Cow Gelato. Now, mind you, there were plenty of other dessert spots open with no lines at all, but for some reason, this one was packed. Naturally, as first-timers in the area and total sheep, we followed the herd.
We debated for a good minute—“Do we really wanna wait in this line, or should we just go somewhere quieter?” But then we thought, nahhh, if all these people are lining up, it must be life-changing. So we waited. And waited. And after about 15-20 minutes, we finally made it in.
Turns out, it was the first weekend of March, and they had just dropped new flavors—so obviously, it was hype city in there. I went with burnt caramel, my partner got butterscotch, and off we went, ice creams in hand, feeling like we had just unlocked a hidden gem.
Then we took a bite.
And immediately looked at each other like—wait… this is just… ice cream?? Don’t get me wrong, it was good! Delicious, even! But was it “stand-in-line-for-20-minutes-like-it’s-a-concert-ticket-release” good? Ehhh, not really. The other dessert places probably had the same thing without the wait.
So, if you’re reading this while standing in that line right now—listen, we respect the hustle, but we’re just here to save you some time. If you’re craving gelato, you’ll enjoy it! But if you’re expecting a life-altering, tastebud-exploding experience… maybe just hit up one of the other spots with no line and get the same thing minus the wait.
Or do what we did and be a sheep....
Read moreOh man, where do I even start with Blue Cow Gelato? So there I was, dinner done, but you know how it goes, the sweet tooth was buzzing. Decided to hit up this spot on a whim, and let me tell you, it was a game changer.
Walking into Blue Cow, the vibe was just right. Not too in your face, but had that cool, understated charm that makes you wanna stick around. The folks there? Super chill, like they genuinely enjoy scooping happiness into cones.
Now, onto the main act - the gelato. I've had my fair share of frozen treats, but Blue Cow? Next level stuff. Every spoonful was like a direct line to bliss town. The flavors, man, they've got this wild range that makes choosing a bit of a delicious dilemma. I went for Pavlova in a choc dipped cone with sprinkles, and boy, did it deliver. Creamy, rich, with those subtle notes that keep you guessing.
What really sets them apart though is how genuine it all feels. It's like you can taste the effort and love they put into each batch.
So, if you're ever wandering around after dinner, wondering where to cap off the night, Blue Cow Gelato is where it's at. Trust me, it's not just gelato; it's a whole mood. Definitely the best scoop I've ever had, and I've had... quite a few.
Can’t wait to head back and work my way through their flavor galaxy. 10/10, would recommend getting your...
