It takes skill to bake sourdough bread. I've been practising for 10 years and if you're not baking Daily, it's very difficult to get a consistent light crumb with a textured chewy crust. Burkhardt's French, sourdough loaf and rye rolls are absolutely world-class. They are super light, mild in flavour, and for the price I think I'm going to pop my sourdough starter in the deep-freeze, because there's really no point in me turning out my 6/10 loaf when I can get a 10/10 from these guys with zero effort. Do yourself a favour and Get there early because they do sell out. PS, put your sliced sourdough in the freezer The minute you get home and thaw a couple of slices at a time through the week, and it will always be fresh. Unfortunately, I tend to eat mine before the day out, so if you share my problem, commiserations. Thank goodness, they bake Every day except Sundays.

From 2017 to 2019, I gladly favoured and happily advertised this shop for its impeccably balanced sweets and savouries, boasting ingredients that appeal even to the health-conscious. I was informed on request that indeed they utilised organically grown ingredients in most options, and were owned by local. Rare, indeed.
Nowadays, it seems the organics are only on the name and on some breads, yet there is no written information in the shop about what contains organic ingredients or not. I had to ask to find out that it was only some breads. Also, it seems it's no longer owned by Burkhardt.
Thus, the product quality has declined significantly and the business name has become entirely misleading. ❤️🩹

I've tasted very delicious vanilla slice in Sydney before and I've been searching for 1 here in Port Macquarie. Well, the search is well and truly over. If you love a vanilla slice, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the vanilla slice at Burkhardt's Organic Bakehouse. Very well priced. 15 out of 10 from me. Oh, and I also bought myself a chunky steak & pepper pie and a mango fruit flan. YUM! I will be back to try other things and next time, I'll try to remember to post some pictures of these...
