The Westport Club — Restaurant in Port Macquarie

If there was a rating worse than 1 star I would give it, me, my partner and my two children were driving back from Brisbane with our EV newly purchased on a trade plate. Not that that’s any consolation. Anyway we stopped here as they have a charger and my kids were tired. Wanted to play and eat seemed like the perfect spot to stop until we Entered. The building itself is really nice. The location is nice also except the food is maybe two stars, the service And staff, look a few of them were great, but the ones who made all the difference were absolutely appalling. Long story short, we had the police Called on us because of the Car, supposedly having no plates by staff and After eating when we were going back in to use the bathroom, we were stopped, Both myself and my partner Several times and asked if we were members when we had signed up and given our ID upon entering the first time and had to repeatedly explain that we were already signed up and had just had dinner and we’re using a bathroom The staff, A woman and a man with behaving, as if they were security, and standing in the way when we were walking in asking these questions and they had stopped literally No one else and no one staff member had even asked us about the car since they were so concerned, they called the police. They didn’t even bother to ask us simple question if they were that Curious Not that it’s any of their business to uphold the law as if they know it. Upon arriving the police said that the fact that we were there with our kids was suspicious, and they had calls to come down, The only thing that makes any sense is that we are black and apparently black people having dinner with their kids like everybody else was, having a punt and using the toilets is suspicious and illegal and warrants calls to the police. I’m writing this review for any people of colour who are thinking about entering this establishment just save your Energy and go somewhere that isn’t racist. It’s places like this that gives small towns in Australia a bad name. And they may respond with no no no That’s not how it was, but I’ve been on this earth long enough and I’ve been To know what racism is and how it feels I’ve lived here my whole life it really upset my children who were scared and confused as well having the police show up especially for us when we went doing anything wrong Or illegal! Booked for 8 for a birthday dinner. The views from the restaurant were lovely and so were the waitstaff. Our entree of chicken skewers just wasn't right, it appeared that the chicken wasn't cooked through. It was returned. The waiter/concierge comes back to us and said "we ate a piece and it was fine". Really?? Who does that, would you eat from as stranger's plate? and more importantly during covid times? I don't think so, so No, I don't believe you did that. I also was a little perplexed at why we were "challenged", true professionals cop it on the chin, apologise and learn from the experience. We were refunded. My biggest concern however, was how the head chef screamed at his staff over our complaint and continually berated them, over what appeared to be other mix ups with other people's orders as well. We waited over 70 minutes for simple "club" food, so there were clearly problems in the kitchen. Unfortunately though, this experience with Aqua (the restaurant name) and the absolute pig of a chef, this party of 8 will not return. Friday 2nd march we had a birthday dinner booked at 6pm for my 12 year old granddaughter. At first everything was as it should be, lovely setting, nice atmosphere,, from placing our orders things just went downhill, food was very slow to arrive, some of our group had to wait a very long time for their meal. I ordered Pork Belly, it was so dry, and the vegetables were just mush, my daughters steak was inedible, to top that off we ordered spaghetti bol from the children's menu for our 5 year old, it arrived steaming, in a hot bowl and the waiter proceeded to place it on the table in front of the child, luckily we managed to get it away from her before a serious accident. Finished our meal, time for the birthday cake we brought with us. Had to ask waiters 3 times to clear the table of dirty pates etc,,and bring out the birthday cake.
