I had lunch here today and ordered a Pork Katsu and Rice set. I explicitly asked the waitress for no sesame seeds, as I am anaphylactic. The waitress wrote this down in the system, and I noticed this was also on the receipt that was given to the kitchen, so I sat down and waited for my food.
When I received my food, I noticed there were sesame seeds very blatantly on my salad but I chose to move the salad bowl off of my plate and ate the other food as I did not see any sesame seeds. After being about halfway through my meal, I noticed myself feeling ill and began to look closer at my meal. On top of the crumbed pork katsu were roasted sesame seeds (brown/beige coloured). I called the waitress over and explained what had happened. She informed me that she had told the kitchen not to put sesame seeds on the food, but called the owner over to speak to me. I explained what had happened to the owner and I suggested that the crumb used for the katsu may have had sesame seeds in it, and reiterated that I was anaphylactic. After some back and forth, the owner assured me that it was fine, and that there were, in fact, no sesame seeds on the pork katsu. The owner walked away and brought me a new salad without sesame seeds.
I carefully started eating the katsu again but picked out every sesame seed I found, which amounted to over 20. After finishing this, I called the waitress over and showed her the pile of what was VERY CLEARLY sesame seeds. The waitress kindly apologised and called the owner over again. I explained to the owner that eating sesame seeds can very well kill me, and that what was on my plate was undeniably sesame seeds. She said that the seeds must have come from the crumb, as I suggested earlier. I explained that this was not acceptable, as I had already brought up my allergy several times at this point. I showed her my EpiPens to indicate the severity of my anaphylaxis and stated that I had ASKED for no sesame seeds and was initially told that this was achievable. The owner asked me why I had finished all my food if I was allergic, and I stated that I was falsely assured (by the owner herself) that there were no sesame seeds in my meal. She told me I should choose a different meal next time and essentially told us it wasn't her fault since they didn't make the crumb, and thus there was nothing she could do.
She gave me a half refund for MY meal (roughly 50% of ONLY that single meal costing 24.50$, which eventuated to only 12.50$), slapped the cash down on the table and stormed away. I will not be returning here. I have heard from others that they have received similar attitudes from this owner. I feel bad for the workers here, and I would absolutely not go to this restaurant if they can't even verify the presence of a common allergen...
Read moreI've walked past and had many takeaway drinks and breakfast meals at 5th Season Cafe - but upon looking for a new dinner spot tonight I walked past and noticed they were open for dinner.
I was very warmly greeted and the owner gave me a few suggestions for meals - I ended up trying the BBQ Ribs and it was without a doubt the best Korean food I've ever eaten. The portion size was absolutely perfect, the sauce it was cooked in was absolutely incredible, and the ribs were cooked perfectly. The meal came with some very tasty side dishes that were a perfect accompaniment.
The drinks menu is fantastic and they had the best non alcoholic mojitos I've ever tried, and as you can tell by the photo, an absolutely massive size for an awesome price.
To say I was extremely impressed is an understatement - looking forward to coming back and trying alot more of the menu. I'd very happily say this is Cronulla's new...
