500° Steakhouse Cronulla has been open for a little while now, and it appeared to be a really sophisticated steakhouse with some average prices, so I finally decided to give it a go - I really wish I hadn't.
The menu itself is quite large, with plenty of steaks, burgers, salads, and more to chose from along with an appropriate entree range. For $24.99 I got the Steak Sandwich, their signature burger. It had a pretty vague description of ingredients but enough to hook me into getting it.
I cannot express my disappointment enough, I think I had about 4-5 small slices of steak, which I'm pretty sure was all fat. I wasn't expecting porterhouse, but for $25 I expect more than a few slices of fat cut off the rump steak that they were supposed to throw out. I'd also expect them not to burn it for that cost too, safe to say my expectations were not met. It came on a very lightly toasted Turkish bread with what may be the worst salads you could put on a sandwich. To top it all off, for the price it came in at it was far too small, although I'm not sure I would've wanted to eat more of it anyway.
All of their burgers come with chips, and while I usually quickly finish them off the plate these were just awful. They held off putting any salt on the chips like it was coming out of the chef's salary, and when I asked for gravy to make them a bit more palatable I was told this steakhouse doesn't even have gravy, they just had a basting sauce. I quickly discovered where the sour taste from my sandwich came from when I tried it.
The restaurant itself is somewhat nice, it makes good use of the space available and the front of staff house were nice, which was a refreshing change in comparison...
Read moreEverything about this place ticks the right boxes - especially if you're a meat lover. That said, there are also plenty of choices for those that don't want meat! We had such a good time at 500 Degrees Cronulla and left very full and very impressed.
There are a few specialties to choose from and one of these is the 24 Karat Gold steak! It has a real WOW factor and guaranteed to be an eye popper when it arrives at the table!
They have a full bar and a good range of wines, beers and cocktails - just right for the meal ahead.
While the meat often takes center stage, understandably, the starters are worth trying here too. We had some delicious garlic bread, the char char wings, the popular bone marrow with chimmichurri sauce and bread and garlic mushrooms the risotto balls and the scallops.
From ‘Ranges of Combo’s’ we had the Ribs and Rump. With this you have a choice of Ribs - we went with Pork - and a 250gm Rump. It was perfectly cooked, massive and totally delicious.
We also went with the Wagyu burger with chips. The Wagyu beef patty was cooked perfectly. It was mouth-wateringly good but we also loved the crispness of the lettuce and salad. This whole meal was delicious and with the chips, it was complete. This was seriously one of the best Wagyu burgers with salad ever!
They also have an impressive tomahawk steak if you're seriously hungry. It's another wow factor dish!
There's so much here to love. It really is a...
Read moreAs a Steak enthusiast I was underwhelmed to say the least! Always on the search for the one to beat the best I had high hopes to match the price and the great looking menu!! Steak got cold fast with a lack of a cast iron skillet or at a minimum heated plate to avoid steak getting cold. Sides at an added extra and suaces watery and tasteless. The lobster was cold and dry as was the mash and upon mentioning this to the manager the response was that the feedback would be relayed to the chef but I was still charged.
On a positive note the kids liked their dishes and the staff were polite aside from complaint handling.
I had high hopes that our visit would go well with a view to returning to try other items on the menu but after we recieved the bill before requesting it, it surpassed my three strike rule witch dictates weather or not I'd be a return customer or recommend a friend!
Lastly I'll add that as a "Steak House" the chef should never allow a customer to order a steak with a high marble score to be ordered anything less than medium well to allow fat content to melt and give that sought after buttery flavor as it activates with heat.
Loved the idea but not...
