My go-to for ANZAC Day Two-Up! I love coming here every year for Two-Up in the lane and am pretty gutted that I won't make it this year (guess the birth of my first born will suffice!), but I know that hundreds of others will be sharing the joy and merriment that is this great holiday! Making friends with complete strangers in the crowd and amazing bar staff, you really can't go wrong! I love thier laneway setup with huge stage so everyone can see the action. Inside the pub is not the fanciest and I can't say too much about the food, bit in terms of ANZAc Day festivities, please don't ever change!!

Had the cheeseburger with chips. Cheeseburger was actually pretty good and chips were nice and crunchy. Not gonna lie, my friend got the t-bone steak which looked quite thin and not very moist. The menu was quite limited with hardly anything to choose from. Venue itself looked like it had been frozen in time. That time being the 60s-70s. Food was affordable and not overly priced. Customer service was wonderful and friendly. Food came out relatively fast.

Chance upon this place as tourist just arrived today. Staff are friendly and helpful, coupled with more choices of food made us chose this place for lunch. Staff kind of knew that we are tourist and gave us a friendly briefing on where to order our food, and what are the special of the day. Good quality is good, fresh and tasty! We ordered 2 mains, total $40. 2 glasses of coke cost $8.60.

The Captain Cook Hotel is a big, raised fist to Hemmes guys, and the other heartless moguls buying up old Sydney pubs and making them all "gastro" and "yuppiefied" so you can buy $20 brioche wagyu "organic" sliders and drink expensive, "organic" cider, and be all pretentious. If you like exposed brick interiors, industrial chic pretentiousness, nu-jazz remix soundtracks that are borderline naff, and places that have their own hashtags - then avoid the Captain Cook and go to the Argyle down the road. The Cook is the real deal. It's a local pub that eschews mood lighting for cheap beers and good service and hearty food.

I can't really say more about it - it is what it is. Go to the Cook if you want to drink cheaply and in a place that is pretty alright and close to the rocks and Wynyard. And knowing how gentrified and posh many pubs are becoming, it is one of the classic stalwarts of Sydney and Millers Point. Long live the Cook! Save Millers Point! Millers Point is Not For Sale!

(n.b. I don't really mind gastro pubs either - I'm all for diversity, but not at the cost of...

Attended here on Wednesday to listen to some music at the venue. The older bartended with the glasses and beard was unbelievably rude. He didn’t want some of my friends standing in a certain area so he resorted to physically pushing them off the area. Perhaps he would have a more valid case to politely ask them to do so if the area was taped off as a No Standing zone, but it wasn’t! I wouldn’t recommend coming here if you don’t like being pushed around by...
