After a long and arduous search, I have found the best bacon and egg roll in Redfern, and one of the cheapest too. Charmed offer a B&E with coffee for $10, which is some of the best value in the area. The bun is brioche, which is toasted to perfection every time - a heavy char bordering on (but never quite) burnt which, when combined with the bacon, gives a smoky and complex flavour to this cafe staple. Although not advertised on the menu, this comes with two eggs as standard with its generous helping of bacon. To add some indulgence to the experience you can choose streaky bacon for an additional fee - a nice touch, though not essential, as the standard bacon is crispy and rather thinly sliced itself. I don’t know how but time after time they always manage to nail the yolk, as pictured. Never crumbly, although congealed enough that it’s never a messy experience, which is part of the reason I keep coming back. Don’t waste your time trying other places in the area, I’ve done that for you, so you can trust my assessment that Charmed is the B&E Mecca of this suburb. Highly...
Read moreOrdered a wrap, wanted to bring my bike inside was told no, this was no issue for me, wanted to lean my bike outside on a table where I was planning to sit, was told no. Decided to take away instead and put my empty coffee on the counter and was told “Don’t come back”! By the barista, bearded Asian hat wearing guy serving coffee.
Super rude and laughing as he began raising his voice.
The chef walked out and said he’s nice to everyone. She asked what the issue was I advised nothing I was told to never come back and upon learning that I wanted to lean my bike where I sat she advised me I could.
Eventually the chef sided with the bearded hat wearing barista and they laughed it all off.
Disgusting customer service nothing charming at all about this place or the service - no customer service present so imagine the food quality..?
I left my wrap there no way I’d eat it given the attitude of the...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience working at this café. I’ve been working here for almost four years, and everything was fine under the previous owner. But since the new owner took over, payments have often been delayed — almost every week. Before I left the country, my final pay was handled very unprofessionally. I was supposed to get paid on Thursday, but it didn’t arrive. I asked nicely on Friday, got no response, and was even blocked afterward. I had already sent my work hours twice — once the day after my last shift and again on Sunday of the same week — yet he still claimed he never received them. I only got paid after asking a coworker to contact him.
The whole experience left me feeling that the new owner isn’t the most honest or straightforward person to deal with. To anyone thinking of applying here — be careful and make sure you know what you’re...
