Without a doubt, breadfern bakery definitely has high quality food, pastries, cakes and coffees. The atmosphere and service at breadfern is super lovely and inviting and the staff are amazing too! There's a variety of sandwiches you can choose from, which would make an amazing meal for any time of the day and range from spicy chicken to the most delicious salmon and cream cheese roll. The prices range from approximately $7-10 which is super reasonable considering their high quality and delicious sandwiches. The freshly baked bread was definitely the highlight of the sandwiches.. But the fillings were just as outstanding too!

We also bought an almond croissant which was the most amazing thing ever!!. The croissant itself was warm, crispy on the outside but lovely and buttery on the inside! The custard filling was slightly warm and sweet which made the croissant 10 times better than it already was! ( I highly recommend you guys try this one out)! ALSO.. we got to try out a sweet pastry called ‘Kouign-Amann’ which is a buttery sweet flaky dough topped with sweetened mixed berry compote! This was simple but soo yummy!! Nothing’s better than this combo and is definitely a treat for any day!

We also tried their newly released macarons. (Crunchy pistachio raspberry macaron + crunchy hazelnut passion fruit caramel macaron) The flavours were absolutely divine and the fillings are out of this world good! They have a really lovely chewy shell and the fillings are soo well balanced! (you must give this...

I recently placed an order for a gluten free - flourless chocolate and salted caramel cake for my mums birthday, who is a coeliac. . I requested pick up on a Sunday. They msged me the day before (12.30pm Saturday) to say the cake was ready. I went in on the Sunday to pick up the cake as planned. I told the gentleman that I was not happy that I would now be getting a cake that was a day old, as they made the cake was ready a day earlier than I requested. He told me all cakes were made a day ahead, so basically my cake was now 2 days old. He did give me a discount of $10 which was appreciated. Later on the Sunday when we had the cake, I immediately noticed the cake was different to the picture he had sent me and once we cut the cake, it was obvious that there was no salted caramel there, it was just chocolate. I msged Breadfern and there reply was "I’m very sorry next time you in Redfern, I’ll give you few small cakes sorry." I dont know what makes him think I would bother returning after the poor service, incorrect order, and a very dense, heavy cake which was not enjoyed at all, usually the leftovers would be taken home but the rest of the cake was thrown in the bin and a complete waste and disappointment considering it was for a birthday cake. I am giving them 1 star as I also bought 2 ham and cheese croissants from them and they were nice. Nothing to rush back for though! So many other GREAT bakeries in Sydney, who would have handled this situation...

I’d never been here before but it was a long anticipated trip as this place has been hyped up a lot, including for their doughnuts, available on Wednesdays. Going by their instagram story they looked like small filled donut balls which is great, maybe I can get quite a few for a ‘buy this many, pay this per price’ sort of thing, upon arrival they were quite big, not an issue, I asked for 8 donuts and while figuring out what flavour me and my partner (who I was shopping for) wanted, I called them to clarify while the cashier was putting in the order to the POS, and excused myself from the store as there was someone behind me, the cashier and other staff looked at me as if I was trying to dine and dash without even having the goods with me, and acted smug and surprised that I actually came back in to confirm the order and pay. $44 ($5.5 per doughnut) for overly sweet, chewy, more filling than dough, doughnuts. Certainly not worth the “only on Wednesdays” hype they post on their instagram. Certainly not worth the money. I was willing to look past the not so great experience from the staff if the doughnuts were as good as we’d hoped, but all in all the experience was a let down and I won’t be...

A really popular bakery in Redfern dishing out fresh pastries and bread. Moroccan beef sausage roll Flavour: S+, 8.5/10. Decently tasty though I reckon could be a bit more spicy! Texture: SS, 9/10. Chewy and buttery pastry was excellent. Not overly flaky like some other places Value: A, 7/10. $8.5 Almond croissant Flavour: S+, 8.5/10. Decently buttery pastry with a nice almond filling Texture: SS, 9/10. Again, not super flaky to the point of falling apart which was appreciated. Crispy and still warm Value: B, 6/10. $8.5 is sadly fairly standard **1/6/24 Edit** Have had to update review as there is a strong competitor in Redfern Plain croissant: A, 7/10. Quite average on this occasion. Maybe asking to get it warmed up would have been better. Not nearly as flaky and crispy as the other time Slow cooked beef pie Flavour: S, 8/10. A bit spiced and still beefy. Enjoyable Texture: S, 8/10. No too doughy, still crispy on the outside and soft on the base but have had better! Value: B, 6/10. $9 is quite expensive

review no.14 for 2024 Breadfern Bakery in Redfern NSW Slow Cooked Beef Pie $9 First thoughts, wow. This pie looked big, and it was. The pastry was perfectly cooked on top, nice, light and fluffy, had bit of a sweetness to it, the underside just needed a little more. The inside was like a beef sunday roast potatoes & carrot, and tender soft pieces of beef - no grissle, in a light gravy. Didn't bother me about the pie being in a foil tray, my thoughts about that, they don't make pie trays that big to cater for that style of pie. The serving temp was spot on. Probably one the better pies i've had in a while. I totally rate this pie 👌👌👌 (i apologise there isn't a cross section photo, i was on the phone while i was eating the pie and forgot) #MeatPie #MeatPieAppreciationGroup For more Meat Pie reviews, join my group on Facebook the Meat Pie Appreciation Group

A friend bought some of their King cake and gave it to my family. I bit into it and crunch my teeth onto a hard ceramic figurine. I took the cake and ceramic back to the store to let them know to find out it was a deliberate idea. The figurine is around 2cm long and a clear choking hazard. I spoke to the baker who made it clear he had no intentions of removing the cake from sale even though he could not guarantee the person eating it would know of this hazard. He continually said it was a French tradition and suggested cards to be given out with the cake, great unless you can't read English. He stood there saying I agree with you multiple times but when I asked how could he be agreeing with me while also insisting he would not stop selling the dangerous cake. He just said if I have a complaint I can go ahead and complain.
