Having heard so many positive things about PHD, I was rather excited to finally try out. I must say that as soon as I walked in I was positively surprised by the decor. I was expecting a hole in the wall with creaky old chairs and falling apart tables. I was greeted by a fresh clean environment, with modern furniture, while still retaining a south east asian feel to the place. The smell as soon as you walk in immediately awakens the senses and makes me feel like I am in Hanoi (not that I have ever been there...), and the young girl working away at the hand made rice papers gives an air of authenticity to the place. The menu is vast, and my inexperience with vietnamese cuisine made me go for a dual choice of rice and (very) spicy beef in lemon grass and a thick rice noodle (dry) with roast pork. The rice and beef were a touch too spicy for me (which is unusual), but the noodles and pork, with lashing of fresh mint, peanuts and lettuce were just right. We usually share meals with my wife, so we get to try a variety, but this time I stuck to the noodles as I couldn't handle the spice! The meal came to $23 which was very reasonable, and the water was free! The one oddity of the place was that the toilets were reached by going out the back, outside, past the kitchen. and into the outhouse. They were also very moden and clean, but I guess one would need to dash if it was raining! Certianly a much better proposition than some of the establishments in nearby New Town; you get cheap, quality food, in a clean environment. What more can a food...
Read moreOrdered a Pho with sliced beef, a Vermicelli combination with sugar cane prawn, crispy spring rolls, shredded pork and marinated lemongrass pork, and Crispy crepe style pancake via Ubereats.
The pho was very sweet and felt a lot sweeter than what I typically experience at other Vietnamese restaurants. Felt more like a sweet than savoury broth and the taste of beef stock was not really obvious within the broth. But kudos to packing the broth and noodles and condiments separately.
The crepe style pancake was delivered in a styrofoam box. As the pancake was too hot, some parts of the styrofoam melted and was stuck to the pancake whereas some other parts simply melted and created large holes in the bottom of the box. Not wanting to risk our health, we ended up only eating portions which did not come into contact with the styrofoam. The pancake tasted pretty good. However, the packaging for the pancake definitely needs improvement. Please use cardboard or paper packaging instead.
The saving grace of the meal was the vermicelli combination. The pork was flavourful and had a strong presence of lemongrass, the spring roll was crispy and did not turn soggy despite being put together with the noodles. The sugar cane prawn was nicely seasoned and spiced and the taste of the prawn was very pronounced.
Overall still a pretty good choice for a reasonably priced simple meal for a lazy weeknight. But I suggest not ordering the pancakes until the packaging...
Read moreLACK ON THEIR CUSTOMER AND REQUIRE TRAINING URGENTLY. Especially JENNY!!
My recent experience with Pho PD was extremely disappointing and frustrating. I placed an order through Uber Eats, expecting a convenient and seamless delivery experience. However, that was far from the reality I encountered.
When my order finally arrived, I was shocked to find out that my pho noodles were missing. I contacted Pho PD to inform them of the mistake, only to be met with a dismissive attitude and a blatant attempt to shift the blame onto Uber Eats. Instead of taking responsibility for the error, they insisted that it was Uber Eats' fault and that I should contact them.
I told them Uber eats didn't pack my order. PHO PD did !!! Then I hear another lady yelling in the background just tell the customer to come pick it up.
Frustrated and disgust, I had no choice but to go to the restaurant in person to collect the missing noodles. This defeated the purpose of ordering delivery in the first place and wasted my time and effort.
Overall, the lack of accountability and poor customer service displayed by Pho PD left a sour taste in my mouth. Blaming a third-party delivery service for their own mistakes is unacceptable, and it reflects poorly on their professionalism and commitment to customer satisfaction. I would caution others against relying on Pho PD for a reliable and pleasant...
