Amazing place for a quick and satisfying meal. Not to mention, great great value! Food comes out as soon as you order really. We had the boat noodles ($6) which you have the option of beef or pork. We went with beef. For $6, you get a whole lot of meat (as per photos) - as much as some places where you pay $15. Noodle portions were small but that’s boat noodles really. Beef was tender, soup was flavourful and slightly herbal. Also had the Guay Jub ($8) without any innards. They’ve replaced it with extra lean meat. Again, very generous portions of meat and comes with half an egg and a tofu puff. Soup is a little more cleaner and herbal. Slightly sweet. We also tried the Soft shell crab noodles ($12). The noodles were probably pad thai - great flavours, and balanced. The soft shell crab was the flaw for us as it was lukewarm and stale. The batter had also lost its crunch. Overall, will return for the noodles and perhaps some other dishes - in fact, we did but only for a quick bite of the same thing.

Good affordable price but don’t expect to have a nice service or any service at all for you wouldn’t be getting any of that. I have to go up the counter to get myself the cutleries or serviette. Asked the staff to take for us before but they will take ages to bring over to us, so might as well i take myself. And don’t expect to sit cosy, the seating are by sharing basis and very narrow. You got to move out halfway during eating if someone beside you need to leave. Personally love the pork tribes where it have most of the intestine of liver, stomach, blood, pork balls and parsley with bits of greens in the hot tasty pork broth which comes with a bowl of rice too. This is the only place where I can get these kind of soup with nice liver, pig blood and stomach for I love to eat intestines. The broth is superb !! Missus had tried their soft shell crab and it’s not bad but a bit stingy on the crab. She loves their fish where the sauce is strong to go with the rice.

ENGLISH The Chon Siam is "THE" authentic Thai street food in Sydney - when I ate there the place was almost fully visited by Thais. There were a huge number of people collecting pre-ordered food - the store was "buzzing", so to speak. It feels like you are in Bangkok. Right next to the Chon Siam there are some shops offering Asian goods - especially Thai food. Of course, I also tried a noodle soup, a Kuatiu Nahm. I ordered the Kuatiu here as Kuatiu Nahm Tok - so refined with pig's blood, served with fine noodles, fresh coriander and a handful of crunchy soybean sprouts. The soup was a culinary delight! I also tried a Kuajab noodle soup with thick rice noodles, tofu, egg and pork intestine, pork liver and pork meat - this soup was also excellent and based on the same soup base as the Kuatiu Nahm. Then there was Kao Pad Muh (egg rice with pork) - here it is important that the flame of the cooker has at least once been directly in contact with the dish, so it also had really authentic taste - even this dish was delicious. Only the Laarb Muh (minced pork salad) was too sweet for me personally, otherwise everything was great. A clear recommendation for the Chon Siam street kitchen in Sydney! I had visited this place before Covid and had tea loved the quantity and price they provided so decided to go back here again. This was a grave mistake as not only have their quality gone down tremendously, their quantity has also decreased a lot. Obviously prices have gone higher too. While ordering I gave a dish that had pork and asked them if they could prepare it in chicken instead. They simply agreed to do it and I got happy. They also asked if I would be okay to have egg and I said yes. Seeing the portion size and after tasting the food I thought to myself it’s not as good as before anymore. I asked for the sauce tray, they gave it to me only two mins and moved it to another table. I soon found out they were circulating only one sauce tray among all the 8-10 tables. How are you supposed to season your food all at once ? This is height of cost cutting and they just take it away even without asking. Now the time came to pay the bill and I paid it in cash as they are cash only. After paying I realised they had charged me more and went back to them. They said what I had ordered was a completely separate dish as I asked for chicken instead of pork and they charged me for the egg separately. My concern is she she saw where I was ordering from the menu and she didn’t bother to tell me beforehand that they are actually not swapping the meat, they are simply using it as an excuse to make it feel like a “custom made” for me and charge me extra for it. Even for the egg they were cheeky enough not to say it was an extra. This looked like being a dishonest as they are just being transparent with the customer and pretending to be accommodating. I don’t mind paying for extra if required but I should have been informed about the cost before. Also the quantity and quality has gone down tremendously so wouldn’t be ever going back...

No where else will you be able to find a bowl of noodles for $4 but here. Not to mention, incredibly authentic and delicious. This place is filled with thai expats which is always a good sign of the authenticity of the restaurant. My favourite dishes include the boat noodles for $4 (or $6 if you are feeling hungry), the pork tribe [tripe] soup ($6) with rice if you are into offal is so warming and tastes like something your mum would prepare at home.

According to my thai friend, this place also does one of the best som tums (papaya salad) in sydney. If you are feeling adventurous, ask for the fermeneted crab som tum. Personally, i don't really find it adds much more to the usual som tum thai. This place does its food the thai way so if you are not good with your spice, remember to ask them to turn the dial down on the spice.

I would also recommend the khana moo krob or crispy pork with chinese brocolli stir fry and rice. Thai people eat every mouth of crispy pork with a slice of their uber hot chillis (prid ki nu) that comes in a lemon and fish sauce condiment.

A lot of the food looks off menu but if you look around the right hand entrance of the restaurant, you will find the "off menu" items on a laminated sheet. Otherwise, I would recommend just observing what other patrons are having and ask the wait staff...

Used to love the boat noodles from this place but the quality has really declined. Unfortunately, the staff were petty, sassy and immature, providing abysmal service. They especially chose to behave that way because we'd only ordered 3 dishes for 5 adults.

After we ordered, they asked to take one of our two small, square tables because of our order size. We had an infant in a pram with us too.

When we later asked for one more pair of chopsticks, they gave us a wooden, takeaway pair (the food came with metal chopsticks) as an extremely petty and passive aggressive action. I highly doubt they'd run out of their normal chopsticks.

Finally, when one of us went to pay, they had scarcely gotten up before a waitress swooped in to take their chair for another table (without asking). The rest of us were still sitting at the table when she did this.

We were quick to eat and patient with Chonsiam but they chose to act in an infantile manner. They were extremely rude and no one should support a business that chooses to act in this way to any of its customers. It was the most awful service I've...
