Five of us dined midweek in early July. On arrival, we were warmly greeted by a friendly young lady who confirmed our booking and took down our contact details. That was a welcome initiative for the new Covid world and I have noticed it at other venues too. We were allocated a nice table in the “Ballroom” dining area on level 1. The “Ballroom” has oak-panelled walls, a high ceiling criss-crossed with attractive wooden beams, honey-coloured wooden floors, and leather chairs - either couch style or bar stools type. It’s an elegant, comfy and airy room with plenty of space between the tables and a casual, laid back and relaxed ambience. The perfect place to enjoy an evening out with friends and family. Our table was a high one with upholstered bar stools. It was large enough to easily fit all the dishes and the drinks. There are no carpets, but the internal heating kept the temp just right and we were warm as toast on a chilly winter night. The bar counter is just outside the ballroom. It’s a long modern, white affair with a decent selection of traditional favourites and craft beers. There’s something to suit all tastes. The guys serving were neatly turned out in smart uniforms. They were polite, helpful and efficient. We started off with a couple of schooners of refreshing Stone & Wood Pale Ale. Then, it was back to the bar to order the food. After you’ve placed your order and paid, you’ll be given a little buzzer, which goes off when meals are ready to be collected. The menu is small, which seems to be the trend now, but still, there was enough to keep everyone happy. We chose burgers and the panko-crumbed chicken schnitzel with chips and salads. It was ready in double quick time. My schnitzel had a generous piece of succulent and tender chicken in a crispy batter and was served with crunchy chips, fresh, wholesome lettuce and juicy tomatoes. The burgers were neatly made with tasty pieces of meat. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we left feeling satisfied and content. We paid $115 for the two schnitzels, three burgers, all with extra pickles and tomatoes, and a bowl of chips. Excellent value for high quality fare, enjoyed in an attractive and stylish setting. Toilets are down the corridor, but easy to find. They’re clean and well provisioned with plenty of cubicles. We had no problem finding parking in nearby Ernest Street, where restrictions end at 6pm. And there’s always the Woolies car park in Burlington Street, with two hours free parking, also a short distance away. Overall, we had a very pleasant evening and everything went off smoothly. The C.N. Hotel is a grand old art deco building dating from the late 1920’s, that stands proudly at the busy intersection of Pac Highway, Falcon Street and Willoughby Rd. A wonderful piece of Sydney’s history that’s been beautifully preserved. Full credit to the owners, the A.L.H. Group for providing an excellent dining experience in such a historic setting. We’ll certainly be back.

This was a really fun trivia night, but I was not a big fan of the vibe of the bar and of the offerings. I asked about the beers, and the bartender just told me to look at the taps. I asked if she had an IPA, and she said, “I don’t know..” This was the bartender. It was a bit odd. I wasn’t even asking if she could recommend a particular beer, and the place was not even that busy, it wasn’t like there was a big line behind me and she had to hurry to answer; she just was brusque. Also, shouldn’t the bartender know what beers they have? All the servers were brusque. Perhaps they were a bit anxious because they knew it was trivia night and they were going to be slammed, but no one seemed particularly happy to have guests there. The margaritas that I had were not great either. The bar/restaurant was also really brightly lit. Maybe it was just for trivia night so we could read our answers? But I’ve been to other bars with trivia, and they are not this brightly lit. It was really offputting. Like being in a big supermarket. These are all the reasons for the three-star review. On the upside, one of the people who worked there grabbed a table and two chairs so that we could be closer to the trivia area. He was very sweet. And, the trivia master was amazing! But I heard that it was his last day. At least that’s what he was saying over the mic. The trivia was fun; the questions were engaging, and it ended up being a packed house! Also, their wine choices by the glass were not bad. I’m just not a fan of the brightness of the bar and the quality of the drinks and the server’s attitudes.

Update January 2025: The first time I went there, it didn’t really have that local vibe. Recently, they changed the lighting from blue to a warm tone, and I’ve found myself visiting more often. I decided to stop comparing it to places in the Inner West since I live in Crows Nest now. The staff are super friendly, the food is surprisingly good, and the daily deals on the Pub+ app are excellent. I highly recommend it, especially the upstairs area on sunny, breezy days. Update: I have ordered some food and they were surprisingly delicious. Their daily special on beers is also great. I was expecting more of a local feel, given that the venue carries the suburb's name. However, on Friday evening, the crowd was mostly quite young, almost as if it were in the city centre. The staff were very attentive, and the bar area upstairs was neat and lively. It doesn’t have a particularly unique character, but the happy hour is excellent.

DO NOT GO HERE, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! Expect to be met with completely Rude, unprofessional & untrained staff from the get go with the two security guards at the entrance. I didn’t get their names unfortunately but they were working on Saturday night 8/5/21. The two security guards were very cold, unfriendly and staunch making you feel unwelcome & uncomfortable right away. Not a good start and does not set the tone for an enjoyable outing. This is the first and last time I will ever attend this venue! I was there celebrating my best mates birthday with about 8 other couples, so without a doubt our spending is great for their business. My partner had just finished another celebration on the other side of the bridge and was to join my friends & I. I booked her an Uber which was around $40 and couldn’t wait for her to get here! She too was met by these power tripping, cold & unwelcoming security guards and was turned away for being too intoxicated. She called me from outside and told me the news and I laughed because my partner barely drinks! I went out right away to see what the issue was. My girlfriend is very petite and very polite - completely unthreatening in any way possible. She told them the truth that she had just had dinner and two drinks. She was stone cold sober by this point as much time had passed since. They told her she was not allowed to stand near the entrance as I spoke to them when 6 young drunken men approached and cat called her making her feel extremely uncomfortable. Right away I told her to come and stand with me at the entrance and not out near the street as clearly I want her to feel secure and protected unlike these miserable security guards who have no idea what they’re doing. The 6 rough looking boys who were loud and clearly drunk were let in right away yet one lone petite girl was not?? How would she cause any trouble whatsoever even if she was drunk?? She was as sober as can be! I was soo frustrated by this point having just paid for her to come all the way over from the inner west, my food was on the table getting cold and just wanted for us to go back in and celebrate my friend’s birthday (who I hadn’t seen in ages by the way). Where is the common sense?! Can’t these two knuckle head security guards see that they just let in a bunch of loose canons and not one sober girl. They couldn’t care less about her safety or where she went after being refused entry. What are these guards doing? They’re guarding this venue from a lone, petite, lovely dressed and warm mannered woman who clearly looks like she’s there to cause harm or damage?!! HA!! This place is an absolute JOKE!! I’m proud that I stood up for my partner and told them (and the owner/manager at this point) just how weak willed with poor judgment they were. Have we no common decency or common sense anymore? I knew they weren’t going to change their uneducated little minds at this point so I told them what I really thought. I wouldn’t want to step foot inside this venue again anyway let alone give them more of my money. The manager ran after me as we left and gave me $50. You can’t buy back your customers mate and I hope you read this - get rid of those pathetic excuse for security guards before you do any more damage to your venue. Even as a man I could very clearly see the inequality and sexism that takes place here, especially reading the other comments. Shut this place down!! ZERO STARS. JOKE ESTABLISHMENT. POWER TRIPPING “SECURITY GUARDS”. UNREASONABLE LOGIC. NO DECENCY....

Review: Crows Nest Hotel, Sydney

During my recent visit to Sydney, I had the pleasure of exploring the Crows Nest Hotel, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations as a vibrant and welcoming establishment.

First and foremost, the Crows Nest Hotel has a charming and inviting atmosphere. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by a warm and friendly ambiance that immediately makes you feel at home. The tasteful decor, comfortable seating arrangements, and well-designed layout contribute to a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

One of the highlights of the Crows Nest Hotel is its extensive selection of beverages. Whether you're a beer enthusiast, wine lover, or prefer crafted cocktails, this place has something for everyone. The bar boasts an impressive variety of drinks, both local and international, ensuring that patrons can find their preferred choice. The staff members are knowledgeable and passionate about their craft, providing excellent recommendations and service.

In addition to its impressive drink selection, the Crows Nest Hotel offers a diverse menu of delicious food options. From appetizers to main courses and desserts, the culinary offerings are carefully crafted to satisfy different palates. The quality of the ingredients and the skillful preparation of the dishes impressed me. The menu caters to various dietary preferences and includes vegetarian and gluten-free options.

The live entertainment at the Crows Nest Hotel adds another layer of enjoyment to the overall experience. Whether it's a live band, DJ, or themed events, there's always something happening to keep guests entertained. The energetic performances create a lively atmosphere and contribute to the social ambiance of the venue.

The service at the Crows Nest Hotel is worth mentioning as well. The staff members are attentive, friendly, and efficient. They make an effort to ensure that guests have a positive experience, and their professionalism is evident in their interactions. Whether you're ordering drinks at the bar or dining in the restaurant area, the service is consistently excellent.

One aspect that sets the Crows Nest Hotel apart is its location. Situated in the vibrant suburb of Crows Nest, it offers a convenient and easily accessible destination for locals and tourists alike. The surrounding area is known for its lively atmosphere, with numerous shops, restaurants, and cafes to explore before or after your visit to the hotel.

If I were to provide one small suggestion, it would be to consider expanding the outdoor seating area. Given the enjoyable ambiance and the pleasant weather in Sydney, having more outdoor seating options would further enhance the overall experience.

Overall, the Crows Nest Hotel in Sydney offers a fantastic combination of great drinks, delicious food, live entertainment, and excellent service. Its inviting atmosphere and central location make it a popular choice for both locals and visitors looking for a memorable and enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend paying a visit to the Crows Nest Hotel...
