The spice guru restaurant is a lovely place on the corner of pacific highway and Falcon st. It's a triangle shape The lighting is a little low. The waiter was welcoming and attended to us immediately.
We had made a booking but she said we could take any free tables for the four (4) of us. We're not used to this type of Indian food, They don't do naan or tandoor which is what we are used to. It was a bit of an experiment.
It seemed like a busy night even from 530 pm on a Sunday.
We ordered 2 servings of samosa and roti with cheese for entree.
For mains we had a 1 chicken vindalloo, butter chicken, rice and I ordered a paneeer dosa.
The samosa was great. Maybe too much tamarind sauce on the samosa and a large dish of extra sauce on the side.
I suggest instead no sauce on the samosa and have a smaller sauce on the side maybe mint style sauce as well.
The roti came on a traditional steel plate with 3 side dishes. Very tasty.
After the samosa and roti our dishes were not taken away and more dishes arrived, so we had to stack on the table next to us.
The people that ordered the chicken said it tasted delicious. Our second chicken dish was brought to us by one of the kitchen staff.
It got so busy that the waiter ended up in the kitchen then with the manager serving. It seemed like they were under staffed which probably caused the issues.
My dosa took a long time to come. The others had almost finished their chicken. It was brought to me by the manager.
The dosa was pretty good but the samabar coconut sauce tasted off and the paneer tasted like it had been cooked too much.
The floor was a bit...
Read moreLast weekend, my family and I discovered a true gem—Spice Guru Indian in Crows Nest—and it was an experience to remember. Tucked away in a vibrant part of town, this restaurant immediately impressed us with its inviting atmosphere and the mouthwatering aroma of spices in the air.
We started with their Pani Puri and Samosas, which were bursting with flavor and set the tone for the rest of the meal. For mains, we couldn’t get enough of the Butter Chicken, Lamb Rogan Josh, and the beautifully spiced Vegetable Biryani. Every dish was rich, authentic, and clearly crafted with care. The Garlic Naan and Cheese Naan were the perfect companions, hot and fluffy straight from the tandoor.
The drinks list was also a pleasant surprise, featuring a great range of wines, cocktails, and Indian beers like Kingfisher—perfect for pairing with the bold flavors of the food.
A quick chat with the owner, Harry Virk, made the visit even more special. His passion for authentic Indian cuisine shines through in every detail, and he’s always happy to recommend the best combinations for your palate.
Without a doubt, Spice Guru earns a full 5 stars from me—for the exceptional food, friendly service, and welcoming vibe. If you’re craving a true Indian feast, this is the...
Read moreAs a local who frequently dines at many restaurants across the Lower North Shore, I recently visited this relatively new establishment for a quick bite with a friend. I ordered masala dosa, a staple Indian dish that I've enjoyed at well-established, reputable restaurants in the area such as Malabar and Dhakshin. Unfortunately, my experience fell well short of expectations. The dosa arrived thick and slightly burnt - a far cry from the crisp, delicate pancake it should be. The potato filling was completely tasteless, as were the accompanying sambar and two chutneys; all lacked proper seasoning. I ordered a lentil curry to supplement my meal, which thankfully was tasty with proper seasoning. When I expressed my disappointment to the waiter while paying the bill, I was met with complete indifference. With at least four other Indian restaurants in the neighbourhood (including the outstanding Malabar and Dhakshin), there's simply no reason to visit Spice Guru. As a local, I won't...
