Been to Emperor's Puffs in Chinatown, Sydney many times. It is a popular spot known for its amazing cream puffs. Located on Dixon Street in the heart of Chinatown, Emperor's Puffs is a small hole-in-the-wall establishment that attracts long queues of people like us that are eager to get their hands on these delicious treats. When you visit Emperor's Puffs, you place your order at the counter which is just a hole in the wall. Strongly recommend order more than you need as because these cream puffs are too good to stop at just 1 or 2 or 5 or 10, you get the idea. Don’t finish them all then no problems. We found that they sweat a bit making the dough a tag soggy. But when we got home we put it in the oven to heat up and they were back to being their tasty best again. The puffs are made fresh on the spot, so you don't have to wait too long before they are ready. You get them within a minute of ordering. The service is very very quick. The queue moves quick enough too. Once you receive these cream puffs it is best to eat straight away while they are fresh. Note though – the cream filling is very very hot. So, what exactly are Emperor's Puffs? They are soft pastry balls filled with piping hot sweet custard. The puffs are made using a special machine that quickly churns them out. The dough mixture is dropped into molds, cooked, and transformed into a soft outer pastry casing. The custard filling inside is heated to a high temperature, creating a delightful contrast between the soft pastry and the hot custard. As mentioned above, Emperor's Puffs is a popular spot and queues are common. Definitely the best cream puffs in Sydney is at Emperor's Puffs in Chinatown.

I am not one to publicly put down those in the extremely difficult hospitality industry though I couldn’t believe this. The atmosphere felt icky and was absolutely filthy. Dust lined the wine glass racks and the waiter offered me the straw he had just dropped on the floor under my chair. When I respectfully declined, he placed it back in the jar with the other “clean” straws. The food was terrible and it made it even harder to digest when one of the waiters brought out a lobster and a crab to show other guests and he then placed them on the disgustingly dirty floor when photos were being taken. The staff was oblivious and rude and there was no communication or acknowledgement of us from the moment we walked in to the moment we payed our ridiculously expensive bill and left. They weren’t busy so there was no excuse to ignore us and we were kind and patient regardless. We then thought we’d give them another chance by getting cream puffs from their bakery next door though we had the exact same customer experience and subpar cream puffs. I would never ever recommend this so-called restaurant to anyone and am shocked that the food authorities haven’t shut them down yet. It’s hard enough to run a restaurant these days and to keep the doors open but when you see how careless and uninterested this restaurant’s staff were, it’s baffling how their management hasn’t been able to make changes for their own good and really displays that it must be an attitude that their management also holds. After all, they’re getting paid to work there and yet they clearly don’t understand their roles. So disappointing and simply ruined our evening and...
