This was the first café on my walk from UNSW campus that was not ridiculously overcrowded on a late Saturday morning. I had faith that any Randwick cafe would serve better food than Coco Cubano, which is one of the only two places on campus that serves decent breakfast food, and my faith was not misplaced.
I ordered a latte and a haloumi stack, believing that I would not be salt deficient for the rest of the week. The latte was served promptly and with good presentation, although I tend to expect more froth generally. The coffee itself was decent, not the most amazing thing I have had, but it's a breath of fresh air compared to the hacky 'lattes' I attempt myself, and certainly compared to most places on campus.
The haloumi in the haloumi stack was surprisingly not too salty! I'm not sure purists would appreciate that, but I am no purist, and I cannot take that much salt generally. However, the bacon did compensate for this, so I am no longer hyponatremic. The poached eggs were immaculate, the yolks a perfect consistency, the white completely solid, so my excessive phobia of salmonella was not triggered.
Apparently the gluten free bread option was a recent addition here, and I can certainly tell the bread is store bought, but I appreciate the ability to eat here regardless (and it was one of the more expensive multigrain brands).
I may be underselling this place since I ordered what was literally the first thing on the menu, and have only dined here once, avoiding the salmon-containing dish since I had been eating a fair amount of it recently for some reason (there goes the little disposable income I have left).
The atmosphere is good for the building they have inherited, the music is mostly fairly non-invasive.
Also, quite a selection of sandwiches, if you're into that.
I'll probably be back here again if I...
Read moreVisited this place with my brother on the 2nd October 2016 around 11am. Placed our orders with a European girl working our checkout. She seemed a bit confused and asked us to repeat our order a few times. After a while our food arrived but our drinks (juices.. one of which was a simple orange juoce) did not. Kept waiting.. nothing. Flagged her down (she was on the floor at that time) and asked her. She said she would check. Another 10mins passed food got cold with no drinks. Eventually went up to ask the barista (an Asian girl) who apologised and immediately organised the drinks. Saw some commotion in the kitchen where other staff members looked frustrated. Not too sure what happened but quite soured our experience. Food was fine and quite timely but experience left something to be desired. The morning wasn't busy either, had a few guests but nothing crazy. We saw people after us get their drinks before us which was quite frustrating especially as we had asked our checkout girl about it and she had...
