Superb cappuccino's !. An unexpected little gem from within the dark, cavernous den of iniquity - the gaming lounge....!.(pokies!). Good vibe in general throughout the pub. The oddly comforting buzz of muffled chatter.... the sound of connectedness, of different relationships playing out within their own unique layers & dimensions. For the most part, it complemented the laissez faire, go with the flow type atmosphere. In rare moments, it was intrusively loud & quite jarring, but only in rare moments & let's face it, that's a pub for you. Would be foolish to expect otherwise! Haven't tried the food, but it's always been busy the 4 or 5 times I've visited. I dare say that counts for a lot. The service was friendly & welcoming. Well designed & suitably spacious arena. I would highly recommend the General for those more casual encounters where everyone is generally content to be with mates &/or family & hanging out in a like minded environment. Not at all rough or rowdy. Unlikely of trouble breaking out. Trivea, karaoke, music nights, politics in the pub....if they're dont already host these activities, they should consider it. Would work very well I believe, based on the venue's vibe & the...

Great food. Annoying that you need to sign up as a (free) member to enjoy ādiscountsā off all food and drink. But the free welcome drink and birthday voucher are a small perk.
Hubby enjoyed his chicken schnitzel and I adored the pumpkin & goats cheese ravioli (the second time Iāve had this- great both times. Our 2yo had the grilled chicken & vegetables. All beautifully presented and came out quickly (though we were eating at the classic family timeslot of 5.30PM).
A few good beers incl Grifter but not a huge choice of craft beer if thatās your thing. (Itās ours - lucky the food and vibe is good)
Right next to Sydenham station so convenient location too. Just wish it was closer to home! Will visit again. Parking can be a pain though. (And watch out for parking inspectors)
The loud airplanes occasionally flying over just adds to its charm....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisited on a Thursday night, four people and two dogs. The patio was full so we had to walk our dogs home - donāt think this will be an issue once you can make a booking. But I wouldnāt bring a large dog in the future.
The pizza was great - dough looked and tasted hand rolled, good amount of toppings and good flavour. If I come back for a meal Iāll order a pizza. One of the best quality pizzas Iāve had in a pub.
Cookie was a real let down after all the signs and hype about it. It was semi burnt on the bottom, very dry and crumbly, texture as if it was made with almond flour. Better luck with Arnotts packaged cookie. We ordered two for four people and left most of it behind. When I shared feedback with the man who cleared our table, he couldnāt be more apathetic and said he had one before and it was good...
Margaritas ordered we not bad but not great, overly salty.
Ambience is great, nice clean and new.
Iāll Go back for drinks and pizza when Iām looking for a fix...
