Hey Sydney lunch lovers! Ever had proper New York style bagels for lunch? The new George St Deli in Redfern serves fresh bagels, pretzels, coffee and for a limited time has collaborated with Chef Morgan Mclone of Belles Hot chicken to bring a limited edition menu. Selling out fast. I was invited by the owners to try their classic wagyu reuben bagel with slabs of soft juicy marbled corn beef, melted swiss cheese, russian dressing on sauerkraut and a fresh chewy poppyseed bagel. This is a standout. I also tried the jalapeno chilli hot dog and a fresh raspberry lemonade. A satisfying beautiful lunch, the friendliest staff and wonderful bagels and coffee. I loved it! Go pay them a visit. Lunch is calling you.

It was a good place for bagels - I had the pastrami beef and it was fantastic The coffee here, is extremely bad to say the least. I am generally generous with my ratings - but the coffee here was a watery mess. For context I ordered a regular skim mocha. The Bagel was the only thing I recommend. The table was dirty and self serve cups were smudged and dirty as well. The location is very beautiful so I think with a little maintenance this place has a lot of potential. Definitely recommend the Pastrami Beef Bagel. I do not recommend the coffee AT all. The lemonade was really nice.

The lox bagel is absolutely delicious but it's very expensive for a bagel. 1st time I purchased it was packed with cream cheese & lox (yes! Image attached), 2nd time there wasn't enough lox (boo!). I was some-what happy paying for the 1st, but not 2nd. $5 for chips & pickle, 1 time was worth it because I received a decent amount of chips and the pickles are devine, the other time not worth it as the chips were saturated in oil (oil still coating the chips) and the portion was tiny (image attached). I understand they're going through a teething period - hope this feedback helps :)

I used to be a regular here and the rules around their coffee loyalty card aren't displayed anywhere (even on the card). I've been in trouble with them multiple times in the past, which is why i don't go back, but i'll write them up here for everyone based on my interpretation. Just note, that these can change daily / depending on who serves you....

Call us stingy, but regardless of how many coffees you order, you'll only get one stamp. Order 1 coffee? 1 stamp! Order 5 coffees? That's still only one stamp on the card! Even if you offer to order and pay for each one separately, we'll only give you one stamp.

We'll stamp 'where ever' on your card, to make it really hard for you to understand when you've hit the 10th coffee for free. If you misread what we've done and you dare try to claim that 10th free coffee for free when you only have 8 stamps, even by accident - you bet we'll call you out on it. We'll even make a big deal about it and shame you in front of everyone, especially if you're a regular!

If you buy the coffee as part of a pack or combo, no stamp for you either!

Hope this helps everyone :). If it's too confusing, there's about a dozen other coffee shops in Redfern that sell the same thing for...

####FOLLOWING MY REVIEW, THE OWNER APPROACHED ME AND SINCERELY APOLOGIZED FOR THE EXPERIENCE. SHE WAS GENUINE, COURTEOUS, AND PROFESSIONAL, SPEAKING TO ME WITH RESPECT AND HUMILITY. THIS LEVEL OF SERVICE REAFFIRMED WHY I APPRECIATE GETTING MY COFFEE FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT. I WILL CONTINUE TO BUY COFFEES AT GSD, PROVIDED THAT THE INITIAL ISSUE DOES NOT REOCCUR##

I used to enjoy coming to this cafe, but my recent experience was very disappointing. When I went to redeem my free coffee, I questioned why a new loyalty card was being stamped. Instead of checking thoroughly, the lady in charge insisted I had already received my free coffee previously.

I visit this cafe occasionally, and her response was both frustrating and dismissive. It lacked any sense of care or customer service.

I will not be returning. Fortunately, I found another cafe nearby that offers better...

Ordered the vegetarian bagel for $15. Was it delicious? Yes. Was it something extraordinary? Not really. To be competitive around Redfern they will have to adjust prices down or make their bagels something really unique and more filling (fully aware that cost of ingredients have increased as many businesseshave had to increase their prices in the area). I was left feeling hungry after the bagel and for that price there are plenty of places in Redfern where I can have a substantial (quality) meal and be well fed. I would go back but it would be a treat for that price. The staff were lovely and cannot fault them at all!

Update since last review Went back today after many months and the quality/quantity for the price charged had drastically improved and can confirm I'll be going again as a regular :) . Enjoyed my...
