I recently visited Gibbons Street Café in Redfern and had such a lovely experience that I couldn’t wait to share it! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the warmest and most cheerful staff — their friendly energy really sets the tone for the place. I ordered the corn fritters, and honestly, they were some of the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, soft and flavour-packed on the inside — every bite was delicious. They were served beautifully, and the portion size was just right. If you’re a fan of a hearty, satisfying brunch, this dish is a must-try. The coffee was also excellent — smooth, rich, and well-balanced. It had that perfect strength without being overpowering, and you could tell it was made with care. It paired beautifully with the meal and rounded off the whole experience. The café itself has a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Whether you’re catching up with a friend or just enjoying a quiet solo breakfast, it’s a great spot to spend some time. Highly recommend if you’re in the Redfern area — amazing food, great coffee, and genuinely lovely people behind the counter. I’ll definitely be coming back!

We chose the Gibbons Street Cafe as our venue for a Microwedding after an extensive search for a good venue in the Redfern area. And we could not have been happier with our choice. Louris and her team did their best to make our wedding the most beautiful experience and making everyone feel really welcome. The food was amazing, a mix of tasty entrees, fruit platters and a main grazing table with the most delicious mix of Mediterranean choices. Also plenty of good deserts. Everything was prepared freshly and presented beautifully, we received a lot of praise from our wedding guests for the coziness and homeliness of the venue and the quality of the catering and drinks and the decorations. The team did their utmost to help us preparing a catering package, they were open and attentive to our requests and always available for suggestions or questions we had. On the day, our guests felt personally attended to by the Gibbons St team, welcoming each person with drink of their choice and a friendly chat. All in all a very positive experience.

Came for a second time and had some awesome food from the Easter menu - we loved the passion fruit and mango whip with watermelon and granola and fruits. We also had the caramel chick shake in an Easter egg and the beautiful signature hot cakes. A lovely little cafe that would be an instagrammers dream with colour changing drinks, matcha lattes and fluffy pancakes with honeycomb. I like the decor and styling of this cafe, bright and open and welcoming. Close to Redfern station, and easy enough to find a park. I had a lavender soda which was nice and refreshing, and my friend had a latte. For a meal, I had the vegan meal with kale, beetroot hummus and falafel. Whilst this was nice and healthy it lacked flavour. My friend had the cheeseburger and chips which was a nice meal, a brioche type bun with salad and cheese. I’d be keen to try pancakes there as they looked good.

Brought girlfriend to the cafe for a quick lunch. The entire dining experience and service were disastrous from beginning to end.

As I was not hungry I have ordered a flat white for me and her a squid spaghetti. The waitress has taken our order and asked me twice on whether that's all for us. She insisted on leaving a menu on the desk.

After ten minutes there are several new customers dined in and have their drink served while we still have nothing on table. The same waitress returned and asked AGAIN on extra orders and I insisted on my two items. Another ten minutes have passed and even new customers got their food served and all we got was a cup of flat white ordered twenty minutes ago.

I soon enquired another waitress and she was very friendly to help look into the order, yet never returned to me. Few EXTRA minutes later the spaghetti finally arrived. The whole waiting time to fulfil our order was a solid 40 minutes. I thought the issue has finally settled.

Just as we were about to finish our meal, the waitress suddenly served two slices of bread and about to leave without notice. When I asked her whether its included in the spaghetti meal or its a wrong order, she replied with rolled eyes, saying this serve is 'free', 'not included in the receipt and enjoy' without addressing ANY kind of apologies about the late serve.

On a personal level I feel insulted. That particular waitress was not content with my order amount for two people from the beginning, and proceeded to ask the customer THREE times on adding extra orders; while serving an unwanted bread without a SIGN of apology is a further tease to me as a customer.

I have every right to enjoy a good cup of coffee while having my partner served a full lunch. I cannot see any reason as to why two dry slices of bread and one cup of butter could cover the amount of time wasted, the wrongfully management of time to serve the right customer and the worst possible service to such as simple table of customer.

The act of all these infuriated me to the upmost level and I will never dine in there again. I would also like everyone to see their service quality before trying.

Of course, if they would like to take account of their actions I'm more than happy to see them change...
