The Barley, as it is known locally, is a fantastic pub! Lots of seating in either the main bar, the dining area or if you’re lucky you can grab a table in the courtyard out back (very popular in summer).
Our meals were a decent size and the chicken parmy was tender, tasty and gone too fast.😉
We started off with the garlic bread and yeah it tasted great, but I thought it was cut a bit too thin and there was too much ‘crust’ and not enough actual bread. Like I said, the taste was there, I just would have gone for another type of bread.
The nachos one of my friends had was huge, after adding a serve of beef brisket for something different. I was definitely having food envy and secretly hoping she didn’t finish it all! My partner had British fish and chips served with mushy peas and a side of vinegar. He said it was delicious and the fish looked flaky and fresh.
There was a meat raffle when we were there (Thursday night), tickets handed out with each purchase. For some reason, maybe where we were sitting, each time someone left the pub they gave us their tickets! We had so many we were bound to win…..and that we did! Two meat trays were heading their way to our homes! That’s dinner sorted for a few days. 😊

Read moreI love the Barley. Love it. I can't describe why (possibly it's proximity to a big part of my life at the moment) but it's such a great bar. Distinct different sections always frequented by lovely, kind, interesting groups of people. From families to punks with their pets all kind folk are welcome. They do events on occasion ie trivia and have a fabulous courtyard for sunny day drinking. The food is average - if you've read my other reviews you'll find that I believe pubs should have a low cost menu (which the barley does not have) but perhaps I'm just yet to adjust to the new normal. When did burgers start costing the better part of $20?! Who knows. Anyway, don't come to the Barley because I think it's the best and I want it...
Read moreSuper disappointed. Went to trivia tonight with a bunch of friends, one set of which had a baby. They were greeted by one of the bar staff who said they weren't allowed in with their child. My friends asked why it was not allowed if they chose to have their kid there and the bartender continued to say it was an "liability thing" with zero extra information. After looking through their website and all their reviews I found about 20 reviews saying that they were "child friendly" and not a word saying there was a condition on age. My friends came for a fun night out and instead had to leave the bar and go home. Don't expect to be let in if you have a...
