This is my second visit to the fresh, clean and new Gu Gu Taiwanese Restaurant here in Randwick. The service is excellent. Head chef Kevin is superb, not only in the traditional food prep and presentation, but also in his affable, welcoming manner. Kevin’s advice on menu selection is both informed and spot on. Service is friendly and fast with seating done in a friendly manner where you are treated very personably and NOT as as just another number on a seat. Impressive and warm. Both times I have chosen to have a delightfully light lunch of Gua Bao, first time was the Taiwanese 🇹🇼 chicken karaage, this time I’ve good for the ocean flavour of Crispy Soft Shell Crab 🦀 . Both times the light dough fold the meal comes in has been melt-in-your-mouth fresh (I’m super fussy with fresh doughs and this is 10/10) . The sugar peanut coating gives a super crispness and unique flavour combination that interesting gives a light crunchy texture deep inside the soft fresh dough fold. At only $8.80 for the chicken and $11.80 for the dorsal crab - the pricing cannot be argued with as genuinely good deal. The interior design of a full mirror wall ( yes, spotlessly clean with not even a finger mark , reflecting their emphasis on hygiene) providing a nice sense of space and a well curated wood batten design wall curving to ceiling flowing from behind the generously spaced bench seat giving a sense of a Taiwanese traditional boat-like vibe. Recently licensed ( a real treat in a buzzing little food bonanza like this), I knocked back a perfectly sized Gold Medal Taiwanese lager . Nicely appointed in a well chilled medium size can and 5% A/Vol it was a proper beer with a light finish. The back end of the beer had to be topped off with a serving of their in house sweet potato string fries. Bitingly hot coming straight from the kitchen, they were crisp on the outside, moist and cooked to perfection on the inside, a fast, easy lunch just got better. When you are in Randwick, or anywhere nearby in Coogee or Kenso, be sure to drop by Gu Gu on Belmore Rd ( directly across from Short st and just up from Coles where there is plenty of underground parking) you can’t miss it. Come in for one of the most genuinely warm welcomes I’ve experienced in hospitality in some time. Enjoy. Cheers, Doc (Yes, I’ll...

On my first visit yesterday, I ordered their five spice braised pork belly bento (which comes with hard-boiled egg, stewed cabbage and cold celery salad) and one serving of their dumplings (10 pieces).
The pork belly is to die for, the way it melts in the mouth. I only wish the kitchen had given more of the sauce because that's the best part (otherwise the dish is very dry without the sauce). The cabbage was good but I did not enjoy the celery salad and left it untouched.
The dumplings, unfortunately, was not that impressive. Very bland and the dipping sauce didn't quite lift it up much further.
Service was fine, room for improvement though, probably still some teething issues.
You have to order and pay at the counter but they didn't give you a table number (weird way to service, as how are customers to know what the table number they are sitting at?).
For this, which is minor, I minus one star. Also, turn on the lights! It's so dark I can barely see my food!
The food is good so I might come back again to try their...

We were walking past Gu Gu when a friendly waitress recommended a few non-fried dishes. That led us to a lovely dining experience in their peaceful rear courtyard.
What We Ate: Chilli/Anchovy "Special" – $8.80 Absolutely AWESOME! Something to take home and enjoy the next day...So Tasty!
Homemade Dumplings (Chinese Cabbage & Pork Mince) – 10 pieces for $14.80 Good dumplings, though they needed a bit of shushing (extra spice, chili, etc.) Nice texture, still very enjoyable.
Spicy Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup – $18.80 Tender beef, bold broth, and noodles—this dish got tastier over time. A solid choice!
Season Dan Dan Dry Noodle Soup – $14.80 Served with 1 prawn Pretty plain and tasteless. Maybe good for a very weak stomach, but not for us. (After adding spices/ chilli , the dish was better, but still on the bland side)
Verdict: Food 3 stars + Value is exceptional 5 stars Worth...
