Indulging at Gribbels Marrickville was like taking a savory journey to a rustic Greek island taverna. From the moment I stepped in, Cathy's warm welcome transported me straight to the shores of Greece. With my third visit within a year, her familiarity added a personal touch that promised a memorable evening ahead.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the seafood platter for two, a masterpiece of culinary artistry. The grilling technique applied to the array of seafood was an authentic testament to Greek gastronomy. Each bite revealed the care and precision put into cooking: tender, succulent morsels that ignited memories of sun-soaked Skopelos and the Aegean's pristine waters. The platter was a veritable medley of flavors, a testament to the bounty of the sea.
Adding to the authenticity was the ouzo, sourced from the quaint village of Plomari in Lesvos. Its anise-infused notes danced on the palate, a symphony of flavors that resonated with the very essence of Greek culture. Plomari's reputation as the ouzo capital only heightened the experience, reminding me of the rich traditions behind every sip.
Enveloped in the tunes of live Greek music and the soulful melody of the bouzouki, I found myself truly transported. It was as if I had taken a spontaneous holiday without leaving the city.
Reflecting on the evening, it's safe to say that Gribbels Marrickville had outdone itself, especially with the masterpiece that was the seafood platter for two. The culinary craftsmanship showcased the freshest ingredients, prepared with a mastery that celebrated the essence of Greek cuisine. Without a doubt, I am eagerly anticipating my next visit to relive the authentic Greek flavors that Gribbels Marrickville so...
Read moreI saw this on TikTok so I had to try it first myself thanks to Abbra. I’ll start by saying WOW. He wasn’t exaggerating when he said it was the absolute best he’s had in Greek Seafood. It was cooked to perfection with the lemon olive sauce (grilled octopus). I ordered 1/2 dozen oysters and I was blown away by the freshness. My favourite in Greek is the chips with feta and oregano. This with be the ultimate Chips Feta combo. This place is 10 years ahead of its competitors. I had to text my family with photos and they simply said when we coming. I’m coming back with the family next week. They want the lobster mornay. This place is very affordable with top class quality. I honestly feel it’s cheap. Now the service was painfully excellent, why do I say painfully, it’s simple. They wouldn’t stop asking if I need more sauce or do I need anything else while keeping the table clean. Wow wow wow. I will be a regular. Maria is simply and beautifully amazing. I truly recommend you don’t hesitate and definitely will be...
Read moreWe visited this delightful unpretentious restaurant, on Saturday. The quality and freshness of each dish caught me by surprise. The restaurant is also a take/away and so I didn't expect such high standard. Each dish was delicious and well prepared. Being in the seafood business myself, I know a calamari from squid, and in this restaurant they used the highest quality produce available. We ordered the calamari, it was gently barbecued, the tyrokafteri, was delicious (and I normally don't like this dish but here it was one of the tastiest). We had the prawns saganaki, which had 4 very large fresh prawns, (no frozen prawns here) and this dish was also finger licking. Finally we topped it up with seafood marinara. A large full of quality seafood (supposedly for 2) but it was truly a large portion. Give a miss to the pretentious 5 star restaurants and come and enjoy some true authentic delicious dishes that are reasonably priced. I hope they keep up the good...
