One of the better Gyros places in Marrickville and therefore Sydney. Newly opened. This place was called Koul Cafe. Same owners.
What's good is that the meat is cut off and served straight into the Pita, i.e. it's not thrown onto a hot grill plate to be overcooked and dried. Pork was juicy. Chips were tasty too. Not overloaded with salt. You can see the fresh Oregano sprinkled on the chips. Not greasy.
My only comment is that I wish they didn't stuff the gyro with chips. I see that as a cheap filler. I am old enough to remember old Marrickville when the places like Victoria Yeeros and Illawarra Yeeros didn't add chips. But they all do it now. I've been told that's the way they do it in Greece.
This place is better than Victoria and Illawarra Yeeros because the meat isn't further cooked and dried out on the grill. And the dining area inside is new with more comfortable seating too.
They also have other dishes on the menu. You'll be tempted to come back to try those as well as they looked delicious genuine Greek fare like lamb, stuffed capsicums etc. I know I will be.

Read moreEarly this week I had lunch at Koul cafe. From the first minute we saw the attention to detail. The waitress was so attentive, made us feel comfortable, made sure that we always had a glass full of ice and a water bottle full of fresh water. The coffees reminded us of the feeling we had at the Greek islands! And then the food!!! My friend checked the menu and decided on a tigania but I was not sure what I really wanted so I asked if I could speak with the chef for the daily special. Not only he came a couple of minutes later but after a couple of questions he suggested a rib eye fillet and a side of his choice. OMG!!! When the food was served that was a piece of art not only to look at it but the taste was beyond comparison. I’ve been to high end restaurants and some of them with a hat or a star Michelin. This plate could have easily be at their menus! I highly recommend Koul Cafe for a coffee or lunch! You feel welcomed, you feel looked after and the...

As we walked in the cafe it looked comfortable and very welcoming, The service was outstanding and very friendly loved it. We also received like a chocolate cake moose which was soooo good And very dangerous because you’re tempted to get seconds lol. I cannot fault my experience at koul cafe. The prices were very reasonable and I do highly recommend everyone should come and try it out. Note:...
