Haymarket Hotel — Restaurant in Sydney

As a food blogger, I'm always on the lookout for great dining experiences and that includes pubs! This venue itself is absolutely stunning. (Fun fact, it used to be a bank!)

The staff here are super lovely and accommodating and can make a pretty mean Spicy Margarita! They have cocktail specials that change every couple of months and can make your favourite classics, so there's always something for everybody.

As for food, you can't go wrong with classic pub grub and these guys do it well. Just like their drinks, they'll bring out specials every now and then to keep it exciting!

One of the best things about the Haymarket Hotel is its location. It's just a stone's throw from the Capitol Theatre, which makes it the perfect spot for a pre- or post-show meal. On a recent Friday evening at approximately 8:00 PM, I encountered an unpleasant experience with a bouncer at a bar. Despite the friendly demeanour of the bar staff, the bouncer’s behaviour was markedly rude and arrogant.

Prior to entering the establishment, I had not consumed any alcoholic beverages. However, the bouncer falsely accused me of being intoxicated and possessing alcohol in my bag. This unfounded accusation made the entire experience unpleasant and targeted me.

I was merely seeking to celebrate my birthday and enjoy some relaxing beverages. Unfortunately, the bouncer’s actions cast a shadow over the occasion, resulting in an unpleasant and unwelcome encounter.

Despite the unprofessional behaviour of the bouncers, the bartenders were exceptionally courteous...

This place has a fantastic atmosphere with the gaming lounge clearly seperated from the main Bar and dining areas, (Meaning no annoying Poker machines or Sports betting noise droning on in the background).

The $13 meals are excellent value. The schnitzel is crisp, and never oily or rubbery. The steaks are genuine 200gm with very little fat or gristle. And the meals come with a free beer, wine, or soft drink.

Bar staff have always been very friendly helpful, and are a true credit to the Haymarket achieving its fantastic atmosphere.

I have been frequenting this Hotel for 2 years now and I have never been dissatisfied with either the meal, atmosphere or the friendly and helpful staff.

A hidden gem that I cannot recommended...
