Ice Kirin Bar exceeded my expectations. It is a small Asian- inspired gelato bar located at the back of Regent Place. The store directory says it is on level 9, but it is actually on the ground floor of the centre.

Although the store didn't appear to have too many flavours, I still found it hard to choose. Staff are very patient and let you try a few flavours to help you decide. I eventually decided on the Vietnamese coffee mocha gelato in a cup ($6.80) and added the daifuku- mochi wrap- for an extra $1.50. The gelato was very good and had a really great flavour. It was sweet with a slight bitterness. It was creamy and smooth. I liked the mochi wrap, however, I'm someone who loves ice cream in its purer form, and I felt it detracted from the ice cream. Next time, for almost the same price, I would get a double scoop instead.

My friend had a double scoop in a cone ($8.80). They choose passionfruit and peach oolong. You could really taste the flavour of passionfruit in the ice cream. I found the peach oolong to be a little more subtle. Nevertheless, it was really good ice cream.

Service is excellent. The bar is small with not a big area to work in. When we arrived at the store, there was a reasonable sized line out the door. Staff were very efficient, helpful, friendly, and courteous.

The store happily accepts cash and card.

There is no place to sit and eat your gelato in the store however there are many small nooks inside and outside Regent Place to sit and eat.

What I like in particular about this place is the different flavours, many of them not able to be found in other ice cream stores.

I would highly recommend Ice Kirin and...

Asian-inspired gelato wrapped in mochi
I’m sold! On top of that, many of the flavors are infused with tea, making for unique creations that you won’t just find anywhere else. They had several common teas covered, including genmaicha, matcha, oolong, jasmine and osmanthus.

It’s A$6.80 for one scoop, and for A$1.50 extra, you can get it wrapped in a square of mochi, also known as daifuku-style. They recommend getting a scoop in a crispy bun (+A$3.50), but I couldn’t resist the mochi.

It was tough to choose just one flavor and the employees were patient as we asked for a few samples. The Genmaicha had very dominant toasty notes, and I enjoyed the fruity and refreshing Peach Oolong. If you want something strong, the Hojicha won’t let you down.

In the end, I chose a scoop of Jasmine Milk Tea. It had a mild floral taste and perfect tea strength on top of being creamy and milky. The mochi wrapping had a terrific elastic texture and was thin as opposed to doughy. However, that being said, the small spoon wasn’t the most effective in cutting through the mochi when I attempted to get a little of it in each bite. Instead, I ended up with lots of mochi left on the bottom of my cup after eating through my ice cream. I highly recommend this for a unique and delicious dessert that is fun to eat and...

I visited Ice Kirin Bar out of curiosity—I’d seen their range of gelato options from mochi wraps to tea-infused scoops and crispy buns. I decided to try the crispy bun with Nutella & Chocolate Chip gelato. Surprisingly, it wasn’t overly sweet like I expected—in fact, it was nicely balanced! The bun added a touch of saltiness and crunch, which paired perfectly with the creamy gelato inside. Sweet + salty? Totally worked.

Their flavor lineup is seriously tempting, especially the variety of matcha options like Uji Genmaicha and Hojicha—definitely a must-visit for matcha lovers. I’m already thinking about going back to explore more of their tea-based flavors.
