LAB Parramatta — Restaurant in Sydney

I've been coming to this café since it first opened, and I couldn’t be happier that it’s here! From the start, it has been my go-to spot for meeting friends and clients, and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect place to catch up, work, or simply relax with a great cup of coffee.

What sets this café apart is its incredible selection of Asian-inspired pastries and drinks. Every visit feels like a little adventure, discovering new flavors and enjoying the delicate balance of sweetness and texture in their baked goods. Whether it’s a matcha latte, a black sesame croissant, or a yuzu-infused treat, everything is thoughtfully crafted and absolutely delicious.

Tried the twist doughnut and anpan (sweet puréed adzuki bean paste inside a baked flat bun) the other day during a visit. This shop is nicely designed in a clean, modern minimalistic style and customers can either eat in with a coffee or a range of other drinks, or take tray to choose from the cellophane-wrapped baked and deep fried items on display in the open access rack. The anpan was pretty good. The twist doughnut (a length of doughnut dough twisted, deep-fried and sprinkled with processed white sugar granules) was ok but very oil-laden and less jiffy than its Bread Top or Fuji Bakery equivalent.

Lab has some other branches around Sydney. They still accept cash, which is good in this unfolding environment of merchant and bank fees on debit card transactions.

I recently visited this bakery and I have to say, I was impressed by their bingsu. The ice flakes were perfectly light and fluffy, and the combination of the ice cream and fresh fruits (strawberry and others) was absolutely delicious. The strawberries were ripe and sweet, and added the perfect touch of flavor to the dish. The portion size was also generous.
