Normally, in our experience, Koreans run the best Japanese Sushi Trains... but this is an exception... like many of the restaurants around the Parramatta Westfield-train-and bus Hub, the food is mediocre. In this case trying to popularise Sushi by adding rich European sauces and Mayo for a Western-Sushi Fusion experience has lost the purpose of the original cuisine... to serve the freshest and tastiest cuts of Sushi, straight from the chef's knife to your mini-sized Sushi plate..this is Tourist Sushi at its most mediocre. The restaurant is set in a large semi-circular glasshouse near the train interchange and looks trendy from the outside. Inside you are greeted by courteous and helpful staff who assist you to a Covid-safe seating space at the train. The kitchen staff opposite your seat and immaculately presented in what could be Continental Airlines cavin uniforms of the 60s... very original. The train is stacked with plenty of dishes (in fact, double stacked) and little signs at every seating station clearly state the dish costs by the usual colour coding.. But that's where the joy ends... and the occasional pure dish of salmon or tuna sushi is overwhlemed by the over-treated 'decorated sushi dishes'. You can order your own cuts and other dishes like Udong noodles, at extra butnreasonable cost. Not expensive, but definitely not great. Won't...
Read moreI’ve been going to Sushi bay parramatta since it opened.
Yesterday we took my infant (under 1) with us so she could finally try it out for the first time (She’s been with us before but not eaten at sushi bay parramatta before). At first we ordered baby avocado for her. But she finish her avocado and there was a lot of rice left, she wanted more (she can’t eat the whole roll, I had to break it up for her). I asked if they could sell just a few slices of avocado for me so I can feed baby, they flat out said no. I have never been to any restaurant that has said no to helping accomodate for a baby. Because it’s really not that hard. I would have paid for the same dish, just without the rice and seaweed. All good, I breastfed her in the restaurant, which of course is a legal right, but your staff were visibly eyeing me and whispering to each other about it. So now you discriminate against breastfeeding too?
Also, when I ask for something it’s because I want it fresh not off the train. Why take food off the train and serve me something cold? You never used to do that. And you gave us two cups, one plastic (you only give that to kids).. so you wanted my partner and I to share a cup. Whole situation...
Read moreThe food was tasty, rice was good consistency for sushi which is a big deal when it comes to Japanese food. So would eat there again.
However it was hard to get served, when my friend and I tried to ask questions staff wouldn't hear us or not be present in the space so didn't notice us trying to get their attention.
We weren't offered a drink on arrival or spoken to about how their restaurant operates aka. Let us know if you want to order additional items from the menu located here.
Usually in establishments the fridge will say if you can grab a drink directly, yourself... But that was not apparent. It took by our third plate to realise we hadn't been actually attended to at all, so we were confused why we couldn't wave a waiter down for assistance... Or if we could get a drink ourselves, but the fridge looked like we couldn't go beyond the train itself to access drinks... Just to finally be told we can access it in our awkward standing around the proximity of said fridge.
That being said.. I'd go back cause the food was nice. Albeit maybe due to the economy atm the serves looked small. Which...
