I don’t write many reviews but ~
I want to start by saying the atmosphere and layout of the restaurant was beautiful and at a very comfortable courtyard near broadway. Was a good vibe sitting here and to enjoy some food and chat with friends
Some down side:
Wait time- although i have worked at hospitality for 7 years so i understand if its busy times and don’t mind waiting. But i feel if waiting 30 minutes or more when you are a guest of 2 after big tables that ordered after you got their food first, it made us feel a bit abandoned. I received my rice first and 10 minutes before my meal, and further 20 minutes before my friend received his noodles (after asking 3 different staff and one of them claimed to have forgotten his order). At times did not feel accommodated, and mistakes can happen but just felt like the service was a downside and expected more friendly and helpful staff. But maybe they were just stressed so i understand.
Food -
My rice was drenched in oil, i could not eat half of it and had to separate into a different bowl. I’m not sure fried rice needed that much oil. I spent nearly $20 on this, although top half was delicious and seasoning was good, bottom half was inedible and i could not eat it. 2.5/5
The chicken i ordered was filled with very small bones, i had 3 pieces and could not eat anymore as i constantly had to spit bits of my chicken out. Menu had not specified that this specific dish had bones, otherwise i would have ordered something else. And staff could not assist me in explaining what the dishes are, i suggest writing a description in the menu to help customers decide if it is the right meal for them. Or have an additional staff that knows the menu and can assist customers, as some of us are unfamiliar with the dishes coming here for the first couple of times. 1/5
The noodles were a very generous serving, but was also very oily and lacked in seasoning. Was however edible compared to the rest, so will give 3/5
Will overall give 3/5 as i don’t want to drag the restaurant reviews down, but i was quite disappointed in spending $70 on these meals. May not be back here again but will consider it since this was my first...
Read moreThis humble place with kind employees and fantastic and authentic dishes is a gem in the raw. The staff even gave us some of their own personal tea leave statch for our tea (hot tea is not on their beverage list and we had requested it and rather than saying it's not available, they provided some of their private stash).
Sadly, we had misordered in Cantonese and missed out on their signature dish but manage to have something almost as tasty ... They are known for their chicken rice pot, we ordered it accidentally without the rice and it was fantastic but not as the menu list said. Totally our fault for mangling their language (most of the staff speaks mainland Mandarin not Cantonese).
We ordered a total of 4 dishes each of which was fantastic with lots of flavor and a variety of spices but not too hot. Each dish had varying levels of spice and heat, resulting in a wonderful meal.
If you are not familiar with szechuan dishes don't be afraid to ask, they do speak English -- we are just used to ordering in Cantonese at szechuan restaurants.
Five stars for this wonderful, comma slightly out of the way place.
As a footnote, you can even dine outdoors without worrisome traffic pollution and noise as they are in a courtyard protected from...
Read moreI’ve been getting food from this place at least 1-2 times weekly in the past few months. Their food has always been good and high quality. However, I went there again today and at least 5-6 different types of foods weren’t in my Malatang, which costed me approximately ~$10 (based on how heavy those foods were). Called up the restaurant and informed about the situation, the staff repeatedly said “that’s impossible” for more than 20 times. In the call they mentioned sometimes they do forget to put meat/fish etc in as they cook them separately, but again, she mentioned it’s “IMPOSSIBLE” that they would ever forget to put in food like mushrooms/veggies. But the fact was that they were NOT in my Malatang?? What do you mean by “impossible”? Honestly not sure if they took my food out after I paid for it or just simply forgot to put them in. This place has been one of my fav places since they opened but probably won’t go back anymore- really don’t appreciate how they insisted on it was impossible for them to forget to put food in/take food out and how they made it sound like I was...
