Came here for Valentines Dinner and was pretty disappointed with the quality of food. I'm not sure if it was because it was "Valentines" or if it's the usual standard but food definitely did not justify the price point. If you're not lucky enough to get a seating outside with views of the Opera House then forget the experiences being worth the money. Being sat inside feels like a dungeon (to be fair its not really something they can control with the building being a heritage building) but I wouldn't have minded so much if the food was tasty. For starters I ordered the Kingfish Sashimi which oddly had an overly sweet dressing which completely overpowered any freshness of the fish, my partner and I were actively trying to wipe off the sauce so we could better taste the fish. The portion itself did not warrant the price point with only 4 slices of fish (again, I wouldn't mind the price if the food actually tasted good) We also ordered the pork belly baos, again the flavours were off the pork itself was overly salted and the bao itself was dry and hard on the top and soggy at the bottom as if it had been microwaved Luna duck looked pretty but very bland and flavourless, somehow the meat looked juicy but was void of any of the rich fatty flavour that comes with duck. The rice we ordered for accompaniment was also baffling both cooked and undercooked, parts were hard and some parts complete mush. To end the night I was thoroughly looking forward to trying the "opera cake" dessert which is described as a sponge with lamington flavours. Whilst the dessert looked beautiful to our surprise it was actually hard as a rock. The cake was served with a knife and it was actually incredibly difficult to cut, I used so much force I'm sure the clang of metal on the plate could be heard from the kitchen. The mousse inside was completely frozen and the sponge itself was stale. It's obvious it's a dessert that is mass produced and just thrown in the freezer, the gimmick being only that it looks pretty. Very disappointing experience, if you're any type of foodie I would avoid this place, otherwise if you can get a table outside with a view then maybe it could be worth it.

I've had the pleasure of visiting Lunalu twice, and let me tell you, they've never dropped the ball - not even once. This year, we rang in the Chinese New Year and our best friend's birthday in style. The grub was, quite simply, impeccable. We kicked things off with the Amber Har Gow, loaded with king prawn, spanner crab, ginger, chilli, and salmon roe - it was love at first bite, folks. And because we're gluttons for punishment, we ordered not one, not two, but three of their signature dishes. The Seafood Candied Fried Rice was a party in our mouths, complete with beetroot puree, whole egg, pickled cabbage, and ginger, all topped with a medley of stir-fried Hokkaido scallops, king prawns in XO sauce, and salmon roe - phew. As self-proclaimed seafood aficionados, we just had to try the Glacier 51 Miso Toothfish, proudly sourced from Heard Island Southwest of Western Australia. It was cooked to perfection with a miso glaze, passionfruit dressing, and a side of seasonal salad - we were in seafood heaven. And, of course, no trip to Lunalu would be complete without their famous Quack, Luna Lu duck. This golden, crispy delight was infused with Chinese rose wine and spices, served with a side of daikon, fresh scallions, Tuscan kale, and Davidson plum sauce - it was a real showstopper. We washed it all down with some Oolong tea, because, why not. And for dessert, we shared their signature Luna's Opera House - a coconut sponge cake made with lamington mousse, berry coulise, and crispy wattle-seed biscuit base. It was, in a word, sublime. Now, I know what you're thinking - with all this food, the service must have suffered, right. Wrong. Despite the rain and the crowds, the staff, particularly Mae, were absolute rockstars - attentive, hospitable, and all-around fabulous. All in all, we had a blast, with a view of the harbour and opera house that was, quite literally, worth millions. The Cantonese cuisine was delicious, the service was top-notch, and we left feeling like royalty - what more could you ask for.

It's our second time coming to the restaurant (the first time was in September), and the quality of service and food has gone down from before. Before being seated, two of the staff were busy chatting to each other rather than taking us to our table and only moved along when prompted by a more experienced wait staff. It took quite some time to get our water and have our order taken. The wait staff appeared confused as to whether tables had their orders taken and asked other tables for their orders despite having already ordered with another staff. It seemed they were hurrying us along in comparison to other guests. Both the entree and mains came out at once with no formal introduction, whereas for other tables, they would introduce the dishes and wait until entrees were finished before clearing the table and bringing out the mains. The drinks came out when we had already finished the entree and after all the dishes were hastily put on our table. The duck skin was not as well rendered as our previous experience and the wagyu strip loin looked very different from the photos from their Instagram page (butternut squash was almost non existent on the plate but they had loaded on more soy based sauce and a green oil) to the point that I wondered whether they had given us the wrong dish or had run out of ingredients as there were a few dishes that they informed us that they had run out of. We had ordered a bowl of rice, and they had given us some of the toasty brown bits at the bottom, which was unexpected. Perhaps it was the time or date that made the difference as it was a lot busier at today's dinner than our previous one which made it difficult to flag down someone for the bill. The interior was well decorated and comfortable. The Heaven and Earth cocktail was delicious as ever, and their yuzu dessert was refreshing. I don't think I'll be returning after this experience as the service was quite lacking and the food wasn't as good as I remember it being 3 months ago.

I couldn’t find many reviews about NYE at Luna Lu, but decided to take a chance and try it. However, I can’t recommend it for future NYE celebrations.

When we got there, we found we were seated at a far back table (we had booked the outdoor space). I had previously emailed asking about the view, and was assured “All waterfront diners will have a great view of the fireworks display,” but the view from the table was definitely obstructed by the pillars and beams of the ceiling. We were the first couple to arrive, so we asked if we could get a better spot, but were told no. Keep in mind when booking that you may have a poor view from your seat and you won’t know until you arrive. When a second couple arrived and also had a table in the back, they asked to move as well, and though they were also told it was impossible, they were placated with a bottle of champagne. So if you do end up with a bad location, make sure to complain!

The food was average to good. Our server was very kind and when we couldn’t decide which entree to pick, offered to let us try all 3. The sashimi was excellent, the lobster was overpowered by sesame seeds and the tartare was fairly good, but oddly huge. The mains were less impressive. The wagyu was chewy, the fried rice was cold, but decent, and the toothfish was a bit salty.

For the 9pm fireworks, we stood between the glass partition and the barricade and had a pretty good view of both the bridge and the opera house. But once we returned to our table, service was nonexistent. Drinks were neglected, some tables received dessert, but some (including ours) were forgotten, and servers were hard to find. People started queuing between the glass and the barricade about 45 minutes before the midnight fireworks, and if you aren’t up against the barricade it’s very hard to see beyond that first row of people. Post-midnight fireworks, some tables got a late night snack of bao, prawns, and spring rolls, but as with dessert, our table was forgotten, and we had to chase down the only visible server to ask if we could get a plate as well.

We ended up ordering an espresso, which was not included in the drink package, so we went to pay for that and were utterly surprised to find another $200 surcharge for the holiday. Apparently the $990 that we pre-paid did not include this holiday fee. I didn’t see anything about that on the website or the reservation confirmation. It was an outrageous way to end an already mediocre night. Don’t make the mistake we did and book somewhere...

DISAPPOINTED EXPERIENCE !!!!!

I booked a dinner with my friend on busy Saturday and every thing was fine until the main meal arrived . Your restaurant literally do not care about customer allergies

I ordered drink and entrees first as we sit down , when i ordered entree I did mentioned that i have capsicum allergy so i saw the waiter took note . Then we end up ordered YUZU CHICKEN for main meal, and ONCE AGAIN - I did mentioned i have capsicum allergy so no capsicum please !!! The waiter said ok got it . After 5 mins we order the chicken arrived with FULL OF COLOURFUL CAPSICUM ON IT . I told the guy who served my food that i did mentioned and why is it still capsicum in here ? That waiter looked so confused like he didn’t know there was a note on it . He brought it back to kitchen and later on he gave me a new dish of chicken . Me and my friend was enjoying the food , i took 1 yellow piece on that dish and realised that CAPSICUM - with yellow colour and it looked exactly like a pineapple!!!! Are you serious??? Like i did mentioned it 3 times and your restaurant still give me the food that make me sick ????

I made a complaint with the waiter and he said one of the managers will come to me . We been waiting for 10mins until the manager come to our table . First thing when he came to our table, he straight away talked to my friend- the person who dont have any allergy and completely ignored me who sit opposite???? He literally not even asked who is the one have allergy and how do i feel. He just straight up with lots of words which i couldnt take it at that time . Me and my friend just let him finish all his words , then my friend pointed at me and say Iam the one who got allergy , when my body started turning lightly red already The manager did apologise and gave me some offer for dessert . But seriously, my whole dinner experience turned so awful and disappointing already. I couldn’t take any more food from your restaurant .

Such an awful and horrible experience i ever had !!! You guys just dont care about your customers...
