Glad I shopped around to find the best cake in Sydney when tasked last-minute to get a cake for a colleague. After reading reviews, I decided on Ontico and chose the strawberry cream cake. I gave them a call first to check if they had one ready when I get to the shop at 9am. No one answered when I made the call, but I was surprised they gave me a call back immediately. They assured me that all their cakes were available. They open much earlier than most cake shops which was a big bonus. I had visited another shop earlier and they didn't have any big cakes ready. Transaction was quick and service was friendly. Price was very competitive for the size and quality of the cake. And the cake was just divine. Strawberries were huge and fresh and so was the cream . It was the perfect balance of ratio of cake to cream to strawberries. As a baker myself, I am very picky about cakes, and Ontico is a total winner. I am sorry that I need to post this review but I feel that you should know. After much anticipation, I decided to try one of your cakes for a special occasion. It was bitterly disappointing, so off par that I would say a good old Cheesecake shop cake would have been so much better and half the price. The cake was stale, the sponge was so extremely dry (see photo) that I needed to wash it down with a strong tea. Perhaps I was unlucky and copped a stale cake. If so, it would be a good idea to keep an eye on your stock and only serve fresh ones as the one I got is off putting enough that I cannot recommend your cakes to anyone no matter how pretty they are. It’s not worth it to sell stale cakes as word will get around. I will stick to my tried and trusted cake places...

I'm not a frequent purveyor of cakes, but, pleasantly surprised by Ontico. Needed a last minute birthday cake and found their basque cheesecake quite presentable and, whilst $48 isn't really cheap, I'm told that this is actually quite a decent deal for current standards. Amongst 6, it was enough, so, at $8pp it's good enough.

Moreover, whilst trying to bring to the restaurant, the box got knocked and toppings were displaced. Staff were kind enough to repair it for us and hold onto it until I came back to pick it up.
